Wattson Audio, the high-end Swiss audio brand known for its precision engineering and minimalist design, has expanded its product lineup with the introduction of the powerful new Madison Amplifier.
The Madison Amplifier is designed as a reference-class stereo power amplifier developed in collaboration with the acclaimed high-end audio manufacturer CH Precision (also based in Switzerland).
From Alexandre Lavanchy, Technical Director at Wattson Audio: “With the Madison Amplifier, we set out to create something extraordinary—an amplifier that embodies the precision and musicality that defines Swiss audio…Our partnership with CH Precision allowed us to integrate decades of high-end amplifier expertise into a product that meets Wattson Audio’s codes of a minimalist, compact design that feels honest and timeless.”
The Madison amplifier features a Class A/B topology and is meticulously tuned to deliver rich harmonics, a wide and immersive soundstage, and ultra-low distortion. Its dual-mono architecture ensures excellent channel separation and dynamic stability, preserving every detail in your music.
The Madison Amplifier delivers up to 50 watts per channel into 8 ohms, providing ample headroom to drive medium to high sensitivity loudspeakers with authority, clarity, and control.
Operational Modes
The Madison Amplifier provides three operational modes: Stereo, Bi-amp, or Mono.
- In Stereo Mode, the left input feeds the left channel, and the right input feeds the right channel.
- In Bi-amp Mode, the input signal is routed to both output channels for vertical bi-amping—delivering improved dynamics, resolution, and control without added complexity.
- In Mono Mode, the amplifier becomes a high-current single-channel unit optimized for driving demanding speaker loads and allowing convenient placement near the loudspeaker.
This adaptable functionality ensures long-term performance and smooth integration with future loudspeaker configuration changes.
Exterior & Interior Design
The Madison Amplifier features a minimalist enclosure milled from solid aluminum with meticulous precision, embodying Wattson Audio’s signature design ethos. It pairs seamlessly with the Madison Streamer and Network/DAC, creating a visually cohesive and elegantly understated audio system.
Inside the Madison Amplifier lies high-density circuitry, a robust power supply with symmetrical DC converters, and a low-feedback Class A/B topology—all working together to ensure stable, linear performance across a wide range of speaker loads. Its fully discrete, symmetrical amplification stage preserves signal integrity from input to output, with both RCA and XLR paths meticulously engineered for tonal accuracy and spatial resolution.
At the output stage, each channel features a matched pair of high-power bipolar transistors, delivering precise current and control. This design bridges technical accuracy with musical expression, ensuring a performance that’s both dynamic and emotionally engaging.

The Bottom Line
Wattson Audio may not be a household name, but it is one of many small, independent brands around the world that are helping drive the availability of innovative, high-quality audio products for discerning consumers.
Wattson Audio doesn’t offer a vast product range, but with eCoustics having reviewed their previously released Emerson Streamer, it’s clear that the new Madison Power Amp follows a similar design philosophy. However, it takes on a different role in the hi-fi system as a dedicated power amplifier. While it offers versatility for stereo, bi-amp, or mono operation, its power output of 50 watts per channel at 8 ohms in stereo mode may seem modest compared to other options on the market.
It also has a high $6,500 price tag – and with the tariff landscape looming large in 2025 (including imports from Switzerland), it will be interesting to see if that price will hold and if the Wattson brand and the Madison Amp will gain traction with US audio fans.
