Toshiba has announced the Regza Z870/875 Series MiniLED 4K UHD TV line. It is still unclear if this TV line will become available in the U.S. as the current TV lineup does not include Toshiba’s Z-series models, but we are working to get confirmation from Toshiba.
Here is a look at what Toshiba is promoting.
Tip: Hisense currently owns Toshiba’s TV Business.
Core Features
Image Display: The Z870/875 LCD TVs incorporate Mini LED backlighting combined with Quantum Dots. This combination allows for improved local dimming for a more precise display of blacks and whites, and the Quantum Dots support better color. Additional video processing support is provided by the latest version of the REGZA processor.
Gaming: The Z870/875 series is also capable of 120Hz or 144Hz refresh rate (may vary by model) and MEMC motion processing, making them ideal for gaming. Further gaming support is provided by Toshiba’s Game Mode Pro, which includes ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode), VRR (Variable Refresh Rate), and AMD FreeSync technology.
Color and HDR: The Toshiba REGZA engine supports 97% of the DCI-P3 color gamut. The Z870/875 series is compatible with the Dolby Vision HDR format.
Audio: On the audio side, the TV has a built-in 2.1 channel sound system, as well as Dolby Atmos support. You can also connect the TV to an external sound system via digital optical audio output or HDMI-ARC/eARC.
Wired Connectivity: Other connectivity options include HDMI 2.1, HDMI 2.0, and USB 2.0.
Smart TV: In keeping with “modern” TVs, the Z870/875 series are also smart TVs with Wi-Fi built-in, but the exact Smart OS and app selection may vary depending on the regional market so no details have been mentioned so far. Screen mirroring capability is included.
Screen Sizes: A 100-inch model is already available in China. The 100-inch model includes 256 local dimming zones and up to 1,400 nits of light output. Additional sizes announced so far are 75 inches (75Z875L), 65 inches (65Z875L), and 55 inches (55Z870L).
Tip: It’s important to note that the global version of these TVs has built-in video recording capability, but that feature is not included in some markets, such as the United States.
Price and Availability
The 100-inch Toshiba Z870 TV retails in China for 34,999 yuan (~$5,080 USD). It is expected that several screen size options will become available in several global markets by mid-2023 (July), whether any models will become available in the US remains to be seen.
