Running out of storage space in your IKEA Expedit or media unit? The continuing popularity of vinyl records has brought music listening pleasure for many. However, one side-effect of buying and collecting vinyl records is the storage space required once they start piling up. The worst thing you can do is stack your records and that makes them susceptible to warping and also makes it harder to find specific titles that are lower on the stack.
However, even if you store your records vertically on a shelf or in a closet, which is much more desirable for organization and damage protection, you might end up with less shelf or closet space to store other things, such as books, DVDs, or other things you need to store in an organized manner.
Toneoptic RPM
One solution that may work for you is the Toneoptic RPM rotating record storage unit.
The RPM allows those who enjoy records to re-discover their collection in style through a patented 90-degree rotation, giving them the best of both ways of storing and displaying records.
Key Features
Keep Track of Your Records: Look through records without missing where some of your favorites are located, because the spine may not stand out. No matter how thin or plain the spine.
Flexible Mounting/Placement Options: The RPM can be wall-mounted or placed on a flat shelf or table surface. With either option, you have full access to its rotating features.
Design and Functionality: The RPM’s design and functionality is the result of 143 parts working together. Advisors from Hydro Flask and Cambridge Audio as well as other experts were consulted on this design concept.
Revolving Design: The Toneoptic RPM’s patent-pending 90-degree revolving design represents a practical innovation in vinyl storage and display – a higher frequency of functional aesthetics for more sophisticated listeners and listening rooms.
Material: The RPM is made out of powder-coated aluminum (matte black or gloss white finishes).

Initial Impression
The Toneoptic RPM record storage system looks like a solution that could appeal to many record collectors. However, it looks like it can also work for record sellers, not only providing another browsing option for buyers but also getting more out of a record shop’s wall space. The rotating nature of the storage unit provides an additional way for a record buyer to check out titles by looking at the record sleeve spines rather than flipping records in a big. However, I must admit, flipping through a record bin is also a lot of fun.
Price & Availability
The Toneoptic RPM is available now for $325 or $375 at toneoptic.com depending whether choosing bottom mounted or wall mounted option, respectively. Attendees of T.H.E. Show SoCal 2024 can check it on from June 7-9, 2024 at the Hilton Orange County Hotel.
