You don’t always need an audio system with big speakers to enjoy quality music listening. SVS has just started shipping its latest compact audio system solution; the SVS Prime Wireless Pro Powered Speakers Pair for $899.
The Prime Wireless Pro Powered Speaker Pair consists of two powered speakers. The Prime Wireless Pro replaces the previous generation Prime Wireless speakers. New features include:
- Larger cabinet and new port design so it delivers deeper bass and more dynamic output
- Refined active digital crossover tuning to account for new cabinet dimensions, driver upgrade, & port design so its sound profile is more full range than previous version
- New front panel interface with LED display that shows track/artist/source info
- HDMI ARC/eARC input
- Physical remote control included
- Apple Airplay and Chromecast
- Spotify Connect
Core Features
Here is a rundown of the key features of the Prime Wireless Pro Powered Speaker Pair.
Amplification: The system has 200 watt (50 x 4 @ 4 ohms) Class D amplifiers that power the 1-inch aluminum dome tweeter and 5.25-inch mid-base driver for each speaker in a bi-amplified configuration. Each speaker also has a rear-mounted port for additional low-frequency output.
DAC: To support quality music listening, including Hi-Res audio, the SoundBase includes 24-bit/192kHz DAC (Digital-to-Analog Converter).
Music Streaming: In addition to its amp and digital-to-analog conversion capabilities, the SVS Prime Wireless Pro Powered Speaker Pair incorporates comprehensive music streaming support via the following options:
- WiFi
- Bluetooth
- Apple Airplay 2
- Chromecast Built-in
- Spotify Connect
- DTS Play-Fi (now includes gapless playback)
The DTS Play-Fi app provides both control and streaming from several popular music services, including:
- Amazon Music
- Qobuz
- iHeart Radio
- Pandora
- YouTube
- Sirius XM
- Tidal
- Audible
- and more…
Input Connections: In addition to streaming, this system provides several physical audio input options such as HDMI (ARC-enabled for easy connection to TV audio), digital optical, and analog line-level inputs (3.5mm and RCA connect options).
Note: No dedicated phono/turntable input is provided. To connect one, you would need a turntable with a built-in phono preamp, or connect an external phono preamp between a turntable and the analog audio inputs of this system. Also, no USB input is provided to play back music files from USB flash drives.
Output Connections: Subwoofer output. This allows you to connect an external subwoofer of your choice.
Additional Connectivity: An Ethernet in/out loop is also provided.
Control Options
DTS Play-Fi app: As mentioned briefly above, you can control the system using the Play-Fi app for Android, iOS, or Windows. The DTS Play-Fi app also provides access to several streaming services. It can also stream music from any smartphone or tablet and distribute music across the home to as many as 32 different products in 16 zones.
Front Panel Controls: The right channel speaker of this system has a front panel display and physical controls. The front panel displays active source, artist name, song title, and volume settings. There are also 6 backlit preset buttons that provide access to sources, playlists, streaming services, and more. Front panel knobs allow users to toggle between sources and adjust display brightness, pause playback, and set volume.
IR Remote Control: The provided IR remote controls all of the most critical functions and provides direct input buttons for HDMI, Bluetooth, optical, and Line In for easy switching between sources.
Voice Control: The speaker system responds to Alexa and Google voice commands via supported devices.
Closing Thoughts
With its built-in amps, speakers, and wireless streaming capabilities, the Prime Wireless Pro Powered Speaker Pair can serve as a great compact audio system for music, gaming, and can even improve your TV’s sound as a soundbar substitute.
The speaker system can also be paired with additional compatible units as a hub for a multi-room or whole-home audio system. That makes them interesting alternative for those considering Sonos speakers.
“We weren’t content with making the best sounding wireless speaker, but rather a solution that competes with the finest sounding speakers available at any price,” said SVS President, Gary Yacoubian. “Couple that with the amazing user interface and versatile connectivity options and Prime Wireless Pro appeals to both seasoned audiophiles and anyone just starting their Hi-Fi or home theater journey.”
Yacoubian continued, “High-Resolution streaming has elevated the importance of sound quality to more people than ever, yet the wireless smart speaker category is still dominated by products that can’t deliver on the potential. SVS Prime Wireless Pro marries the convenience and simplicity of smart wireless speakers with breathtaking sound quality. Audio fans can finally have the best of both worlds.”
