SVS is best known for excellent subwoofers and speakers, but they also offer other products in their mix. The SVS Prime Wireless Pro SoundBase combines a two-channel integrated stereo amplifier with built-in streaming capabilities that make it a great home audio music listening solution. The SoundBase Pro is the successor to the previous Prime Wireless SoundBase ($499).
Although the previous SoundBase has very similar specifications, the SoundBase Pro has a number of new features:
- HDMI ARC input
- Apple Airplay and Chromecast
- New front panel interface with LED display that shows track/artist/source info
- A physical remote control is now included
- Spotify Connect (this was available on the first version, but revamped here)
Core Features
Here is a rundown of the key features of the Prime Wireless Pro SoundBase.
Amplification: The core of the Prime Wireless Pro SoundBase is its 300 watt (150 x 2 @ 4 ohms) Class D amplifiers, which can easily power large demanding speakers as well as compact speakers for smaller spaces and modest steups.
DAC: To support quality music listening, including Hi-Res audio, the SoundBase includes 24-bit/192kHz DAC (Digital-to-Analog Converter).
Music Streaming: In addition to its amp and digital-to-analog conversion capabilities, the SVS Prime Wireless Pro SoundBase incorporates comprehensive music streaming support.
Using the DTS Play-Fi app, the SoundBase supports the highest resolution streaming possible from several popular music streaming services, including:
Input Connections: In addition to streaming, the SoundBase provides several physical audio input options such as HDMI (ARC-enabled for easy connection to TV audio), digital optical, and analog line level inputs (3.5mm and RCA connect options).
However, with the growing popularity of vinyl records it’s disappointing that a dedicated phono/turntable input is not included. To connect a turntable you either have a turntable with a built-in phono preamp, or connect an external phono preamp between a turntable and the analog audio inputs of the SoundBase.
In addition to the lack of a dedicated phono input, no USB input is provided to play back music files stored on USB flash drives.
Output Connections: Subwoofer output, Line level output (allows connection to external audio system or compatible audio recording device).
Additional Connectivity: Ethernet in/out loop is also provided..
Control Options
DTS Play-Fi app: You can control the SoundBase using the Play-Fi app for Android, iOS, or Windows. The DTS Play-Fi app also lets users access streaming services, radio guides or a home media server from any smartphone or tablet and distribute it across the home to as many as 32 different products in 16 zones.
Front Panel Controls: Intuitive front panel display and controls are also provided. The front panel is able to display source, artist name, song title, and volume settings. There are also 6 backlit preset buttons that provide instant access to sources, favorite playlists, streaming services, and more. Knobs on the front panel allow users to toggle between sources and adjust display brightness as well as pause playback and set volume.
IR Remote Control: The provided IR remote controls all the most critical functions and provides direct input buttons for HDMI, Bluetooth, optical, and Line In for easy switching between sources.
Voice Control: If hands-free control is your preference, the speaker system responds to Alexa and Google voice commands via supported devices.
Closing Thoughts
With its built-in amps and speaker connections, the SoundBase can serve as the core of a complete audio system.
However, since it also has audio line outputs, you can take advantage of the preamp and source connection options of the SoundBase and integrate it into an existing audio or home theater system.
The SoundBase can also be paired with additional compatible units as a hub for a multi-room or whole-home audio system.
“High-res streaming has elevated the importance of sound quality to more people than ever before and users are hungry for a way to bring this experience to existing speakers,” said SVS President and CEO, Gary Yacoubian. “SVS Prime Wireless Pro SoundBase fully delivers on the potential of high-res streaming while bringing speakers into the connected era with immersive, reference quality sound. Add the versatile connectivity and control options and it’s a future-facing smart wireless integrated amplifier without compare.”
