Steinway Lyngdorf, makers of ultra high-end audio components and speakers has released its first soundbar, the Model S. It’s designed for customers who want the ultimate in sound quality from a one-piece sound solution that mounts below a TV. In fact, it’s designed to perfectly match the width of 85-inch TVs, but of course can mount below a TV of any size.
Priced at $17,000 USD, the Model S is expected to deliver far more than a typical soundbar. Steinway Lyngdorf claims that the Model S delivers precise clarity, outstanding musicality, and exceptionally powerful bass, combined with the signature design, materials, and craftsmanship of the world’s finest piano manufacturer, Steinway & Sons.
Model S Soundbar
The Model S Soundbar is an example of the Steinway Lyngdorf Integrated System Approach. This ensures all parts of the system, from the speaker drivers to the stereo or surround processors and powerful digital amplifiers, work perfectly together as one.
Steinway & Sons Design
The Model S Soundbar is a Steinway & Sons soundbar from Steinway Lyngdorf. It features a black front which is complemented by signature gold-plated tweeter frames and bronze-gold lacquered sides with black strings, resembling the piano and musical instruments.
The enclosure of the Model S is rigid and heavy made from machined aluminum front and back panels, a low-resonance MDF frame with five internal acoustically separated chambers. This provides the foundation for the loudspeaker drivers and ensures the purest sound from the highest to the lowest notes – even when playing louder.
Tip: The Model S is designed to be wall mounted (not placed on a surface or stand). However, at about 100 lbs it’s heavy so make sure your wall can handle the weight.
Size & Power
While a growing number of soundbars are becoming thinner and smaller, Steinway Lyngdorf’s Model S Soundbar is being touted as one of the world’s largest. In addition, the soundbar is powered by four digital amplifiers with a combined 1,600-watt output.
Tip: The Model S visually fits perfectly under 85-inch flat panel TVs. It’s within millimeters of being the exact width of Sony’s 85-inch flagship BRAVIA 9 or Samsung’s 85-inch QN90D (2024 models). Due to their respective bezels, the Samsung TV is 2mm wider than soundbar, while the Sony TV is 2mm less wide.
Speaker Driver Technology
Tweeters: The Model S incorporates Air Motion Transformer (AMT) tweeters with Kapton foil.
Midrange: The midrange drivers feature anodized aluminum cones and are powered by very strong neodymium magnets. The left-center-right configuration allows a stable center soundstage and imaging, either in pure stereo or with center channel upmixing multichannel downmixing in the digital Steinway & Sons processor.
Woofers: The two 10-inch woofers employ a high-excursion design with a four-layer voice coil, an anodized aluminum cone, a powerful neodymium magnet, and an ultra-rigid cast aluminum basket.
Tech Note: The Tweeter and Midrange drivers are the same as used in the Steinway Lyngdorf S-15 Bookelf/Standmount speakers.
RoomPerfect
Steinway Lyngdorf’s RoomPerfect™ technology is the finishing touch. This feature calibrates the Soundbar to a room’s acoustics. This optimizes soundbar performance to provide the best possible listening experience, in any room or any speaker placement.
From Thomas Birkelund, CEO and CTO at Steinway Lyngdorf: “The new soundbar is not meant to be of lesser quality or a compromise on sound, as many other soundbar solutions are. I think you will see that the size and the look signal that this is not a compromise but rather meant for a smaller setup, with the same Steinway Lyngdorf quality. This is for the installations where our other products do not fit, but you still want a Steinway product with your TV.”
From Anker Haldan, CCO at Steinway Lyngdorf: “Tapping into new customer segments was the first thing our sales channel partners commented on when they experienced our initial soundbar concept showcased at the ISE 2024. These segments desire the absolute ultimate system for their TV sound, while also seeking a beautifully integrated sound solution with no freestanding speakers or woofers. With our Model S Soundbar, we have achieved just that: bringing the sound quality of our premium Steinway Lyngdorf systems into a single piece.”
Roland Hoffmann, Product Marketing Director at Steinway Lyngdorf: “With the Steinway & Sons Model S Soundbar, we are redefining what is possible from the audio performance of a soundbar. It is an outstanding speaker for on-wall or furniture placement, with or without a TV, that takes the intensity and energy of music and movie soundtracks seriously. With the immaculate lacquering and signature Steinway & Sons details, it is designed like no other soundbar.”
