The Sound Room Guiltless Green Home Theater

Offers 15 Hours of Free Entertainment

The green movement is no longer a fad or a lifestyle choice. Companies and manufacturers in the luxury industry have now identified the demand for high-end, eco-friendly products and services — or “sustainable luxury.” The Sound Room leads the charge locally by offering the latest sustainable luxury innovation — “Guiltless Green Home Theater.” This high-end home theater system runs on solar power and provides 15 hours a week of movies without using electricity.

“Luxury home entertainment just got a whole lot greener,” said David Young, president of The Sound Room. “Consumer electronics are leaning toward Energy-Star standards, but this system is off the charts — and off the power grid. Now consumers can enjoy quality home theater without feeling guilty about wasting electricity.”

“Equipment for the Guiltless Green Home Theater is the same as other high-quality home theater systems,” Young said. “This one includes a 100-inch Stewart screen, a Sharp front projector, and Speakercraft in-wall speakers and subwoofer. The difference is the power source. This system is hooked up to four solar panels on the roof, not the home’s electricity meter. The solar cells collect the sun’s energy and return it to the home’s power grid, essentially spinning the meter backwards and saving you money.”

The Guiltless Green Home Theater produces about two hours per day of entertainment using four solar cells installed on the roof. They provide 700 watts per hour during the four and a half usable hours of sunlight each day, for a total of about 22,000 watts per week. The home theater room, when used at full capacity, requires about 1,500 watts per hour. That provides about 15 hours of off-the-grid home theater entertainment each week.

Home Theater Specialists of America unveiled the Guiltless Green Home Theater in April as a case study in the use of renewable energy for the consumer electronics industry. It is expected to be available for view at The Sound Room in July.
