Sony announced the North American launch date is October 13, 2016 for the PlayStation VR (PS VR), a virtual reality system that takes PS4 to the next level of immersion. Initial PS VR gaming experiences will include Farpoint (Impulse Gear), Star Wars Battlefront: X-Wing VR Mission (Electronic Arts), and Batman: Arkham VR (RockSteady and Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment).
The VR headset is designed to give you the experience of being there. Inside is a 5.7-inch OLED 1080p display running at up to 120 frames per second. It was engineered to be balanced, comfortable, and completely adjustable. The LEDs around the PS VR headset, on the DUALSHOCK 4 wireless controller, and the PlayStation Move motion controller are tracked by the PlayStation Camera, providing an incredibly precise capture of your natural movement in virtual space. In addition 3D audio will help you pinpoint spacial cues around you.
The PS VR headset also has a Cinematic mode, which lets users enjoy a variety of content in a large virtual screen while wearing the headset. Supported content for the Cinematic mode includes standard PS4 games and videos as well as variety of PS4 features including Share Play and Live from PlayStation. Users will also be able to enjoy 360 degrees photos and videos that are captured by devices such as omnidirectional cameras on PS VR via PS4 Media Player, which will let them feel as if they are physically inside the captured scene.
Price and Availability
The Sony PS VR headset will launch globally in October 2016 in Japan, North America, Europe and Asia, at MSRP of 44,980 yen, $399 USD, €399 and £349.
PlayStation VR titles will range from $9.99 to $59.99. Additionally, PlayStation Move controllers will be available as a two-pack bundle for $99.99.
A PlayStation VR Launch Bundle with headset, 2 Move controllers, and PlayStation Camera will retail for $499.99.
