Sony Launches New Photo Sharing Application

Company’s ImageStation Service to Provide Access to Stored Photos from Compatible Mobile Camera Phones or Televisions

Sony shed light today on new “Share Everywhere” program, which will offer its ImageStation users with enhanced solutions for photo sharing through web-enabled camera phones, televisions, computers and portable entertainment systems.

The program kicks off on the ImageStation service with a new Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition 2.0 application developed for distribution through wireless carriers. With this application, you can use your web-enabled camera phone to access, view, upload and share photos and video clips through an easy-to-use interface. The application will also be compatible for those carriers with non-Java mobile platforms.

“People want to enjoy the convenience of sharing photos from all of their devices — their phone, TV, Playstation Portable, or computer – and be able to access them anywhere, anytime whether they are at home, at work, or on-the-go,” said Bob Nell, vice president of ImageStation at Sony Electronics. “This is one of our new applications to make Sony ImageStation an integral part of people’s lives.”

According to Nell, “With this latest application, wireless service providers, handset manufacturers, and mobile service aggregators can attract new customers who are looking to enhance their mobile lifestyle.”

Camera phone users will be able to access and share an unlimited amount of digital images housed at www.ImageStation.com, and choose from any of their online albums to display as slideshows on their phones. Photos can be sent from mobile phone to online albums for friends and family to view. They can also be shared with ImageStation community members through online guest books and email.

The application will be available for wireless providers to embrace beginning in April.

The “Share Everywhere” program is also compatible with Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. If you are using this software on a compatible PC, you can access your photos from the PC’s hard drive and from ImageStation.com for viewing on your television. This application is bundled with the Sony VAIO VA series. A link to upgrade previous versions of Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition is available at www.ImageStation.com/mediacenter.
