Beijing, China — Sony Ericsson today announces the M608c phone and messaging device. This is a fully-specified mobile phone and email tool in an extremely stylish, slim device featuring a touch screen and Chinese character handwriting recognition.

The M608c is a 2.5G version of Sony Ericsson’s recently announced global products, the M600 UMTS handset.
‘M608c is tailor made for China and comes from a strong global portfolio of UMTS products that Sony Ericsson has now put in place in readiness for the eventual introduction of 3G services,’ said Gunilla Nordstrom, Corporate Vice President of Sony Ericsson and President of Sony Ericsson China.
‘China is the single largest market for Sony Ericsson and a strategic base for global business success. We have established the sole in-house global manufacturing base in China. Our investment in R & D enabled us to develop product like Z530 in China, for China and for the world. M608c is another example that further demonstrates our strong commitment to the China market,’ she said.
The ergonomic design of the M608c makes it easy to operate with one hand or two and gives versatile options on how to perform messaging tasks. For example the combination of large dual function keyboard and touch screen handwriting input makes messaging input extremely easy. Reading emails and viewing high quality video and graphics content is made easy with the 3-way Jog Dial and a 2.6′ QVGA screen, capable of handling 262K colours.
A range of standard and proprietary push email applications enabled for operator customisation are being developed in conjunction with a number of partners. These include but not limited to:
