Sony announced their flagship blu-ray disc player for 2012, model BDP-S790, which features a dual-core processor with built-in 4K upscaling. In addition to blu-ray disc, DVD and CD playback, the Sony BDP-S790 is Wi-Fi connected and supports digital services from Sony Entertainment Network, Netflix, YouTube, Pandora, HuluPlus and more.
The BDP-S790 claims to be the world's first 4K player, which offers four times the resolution of Full 1080p HD. It upscales older DVDs to near HD quality, or can convert 2D movies into 3D. Its built-in dual core processor delivers a powerhouse performance minus the lag. Sony claims web pages load quicker, movies and media stream faster and playback appears noticeably smoother.
Other notable features include IP Content Noise Reduction, dual HDMI outputs, front USB port, DLNA, HomeShare Network Speaker compatibility, Skype video call compatibility with microphone/camera (sold separately) and a Media Remote app for iPhone, iPad or compatible Android smartphones.
