Meeting a Wide Range of Needs, Including New Installation Styles, Replacement Models for Living Room Settings, and Second Set Demand

Sharp Corporation will successively introduce into the Japanese market 20 new AQUOS models in three series with screen sizes ranging from 20V to 52V*1 inches by March 1 of this year. All AQUOS models in the new X Series, E Series and D Series feature LCD panels manufactured at the Kameyama Plant. These panels are based on Sharp’s proprietary Advanced Super View LCD that makes viewing easy even in bright locations. All models also support AQUOS Familink*2 that enables simple, easy control of connected audio/video equipment, and deliver energy efficiency at the industry’s highest levels*3.

Today, the broadcast infrastructure is rapidly making the shift from analog to digital signal format. In conjunction with this transition, demand for large-screen full-HD LCD TVs with a high level of compatibility with digital images has grown higher than ever, and their popularity is taking off in earnest. In addition, even greater demand is expected in anticipation of the Summer Olympics to be held in Beijing in August of this year.

Under these circumstances, total sales in Japan of AQUOS LCD TVs, which first made their debut as the “TV for the 21st century” in January of 2001, have now exceeded 10 million units*4.

It is also being predicted that consumer demand will diversify even more to include “second time demand” to not only switch from a CRT-based TV, but also to upgrade one’s LCD TV again, and “second set demand” for personal TV sets. Sharp is adding these three new styles to its AQUOS line-up to respond to these trends.

By constantly pursuing picture quality, audio quality, design and environmental performance as the pinnacle of flat-panel TVs, the AQUOS is aiming to be the “entertainment TV of choice,” offering new audio/visual lifestyles in sizes covering everything from living room units to personal models.
