Schlage LiNK Home Security System

$299 do-it-yourself Schlage LiNK System lets homeowners monitor and control door access, temperature, lighting and more from a computer or cell phone

At 2010 CES, Schlage will preview new capabilities for its Schlage LiNK™ home-management system that allow Schlage wireless keypad locks to be integrated with residential security systems offering central monitoring.

The Schlage LiNK System, which is now available in more than 5,000 retail outlets nationwide, includes a wireless lock or deadbolt and is built around Z-Wave technology, enabling homeowners to lock and unlock doors, monitor live camera feeds, and control temperature, lighting and other Z-Wave-enabled devices from any computer and most Web-enabled mobile phones, including Apple’s iPhone and RIM’s BlackBerry smartphones.

A Comprehensive Security Solution
Schlage will demonstrate how its wireless keypad locks can be integrated into a comprehensive home-security solution that works with a variety of security control panels, all through the Alarm.com platform. Consumers seeking a security system that works with Schlage’s wireless locks will be able to use the Alarm.com platform, which integrates professional security monitoring services provided by third party central stations with Alarm.com’s easy-to-use Web and mobile security and monitoring tools. The demonstrations will also highlight integration with other Z-Wave-enabled devices, including lighting and the Trane Remote Energy Management Thermostat. Network cameras and a remote control that can be used to “enroll” Z-Wave devices into the system will also be shown.

Interactive home security and monitoring systems that incorporate Schlage wireless locks will be available later this year through Alarm.com’s nationwide network of licensed security dealers.

“We are pleased to be able to significantly expand the utility of the Schlage LiNK home-management system,” said Dwight Gibson, Vice President and General Manager, Connected Home Solutions for Ingersoll Rand, the parent company of Schlage. “The ability to integrate our wireless locks into a comprehensive security solution will bring a new level of simplicity to our customers.”

Users Love Schlage LiNK
The overwhelming majority of Schlage LiNK owners are satisfied with the system’s features and benefits, according to a recent survey. And while most Schlage LiNK systems are being used for the primary residence, nearly 25 percent were installed in a second home, rental property or business. Here are a few comments from the survey:

“Schlage LiNK makes life so much easier… I had family come visit, and it was great to give them their own code so they could arrive at their convenience… I have [also] been able to save money on boarding my dogs even with the $12.99 monthly fee because my pet sitter can get in and out without a key.” –Alexis B, Cornelius, NC

“Schlage LiNK was remarkably easy to install and set up. I was pleasantly surprised!” –Alfred H., Solvang, CA

“The nice thing about Schlage LiNK is being able to have the light turn on when you enter your code at the door.” –Bruce M., Holmdel, NJ

“We use Schlage LiNK in our vacation home in Phoenix, AZ… As renters come and go we are able to change the code.” –Dale B., Tigard, OR

“I have two Trane thermostats. I have found that the upstairs is always warmer than the downstairs. I can set both levels to the desired temperature and create ‘scenes’ for different seasons or events…that work to save energy.” –Tony C., Huntersville, NC

“I like being able to use the Schlage camera to look at my home on my phone during the day to see if everything is okay.” –Tosha A., Upper Marlboro, MD

Convenient, Affordable Home Management
In addition to eliminating the need to carry or circulate keys, the Schlage LiNK System makes it easy to set up a Z-Wave wireless ecosystem that gives homeowners 24/7 control from a computer or cell phone, allowing them to: lock and unlock the door; receive email or text alerts when a specific access code is entered; keep a 90-day log to track who’s coming and going and when; easily set up and change entry codes (Schlage wireless locks support up to 19 codes); create temporary codes for a cleaning service, pet sitter, etc.; check a door to see if it is locked, instead of returning home or calling a neighbor; control lighting and conserve energy through remote thermostat management; program the system to automatically turn on lights or adjust the temperature when a specific access code is entered; and see what’s going on at home via a live video-camera feed.

The Schlage LiNK System can support up to 232 Z-Wave devices, all of which would be covered under one $12.99 per month subscription fee. The Schlage LiNK Starter Kit ($299) provides everything needed to set up a wireless Z-Wave network at home, including one Schlage wireless deadbolt or lever lock, the Schlage Bridge, which connects to the home’s existing router and enables wireless control of the system, and a Z-Wave light module. Deadbolts and locks are available in satin nickel, aged bronze and bright brass finishes.

Schlage wireless deadbolts and lever locks are also available separately for $199 each. Other pricing is as follows:

  • Schlage WCW100 wireless camera ($179)
  • Schlage WCE100 wired camera ($149)
  • Trane Remote Energy Management Thermostat ($149, model TZEMT400AB32)
  • Schlage light module ($49.99)

In addition to the Apple iPhone and Research in Motion’s BlackBerry, the Schlage LiNK mobile application is available for devices running Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 5 or higher and phones compatible with Java (J2ME). Support for Qualcomm’s BREW platform is coming soon. Schlage is an elite member of the BlackBerry Alliance Program.
