Most people would agree that getting a good night’s sleep can certainly pay dividends in regard to your health. Consumers are willing to spend a lot of money on a quality mattress, pillows, sheets, duvet, and even medication to make that happen. We all deal with a lot of stress (some more than others) and there is no question that very few of us get enough sleep on a consistent basis to feel totally refreshed each morning. Savoir offers some rather high-end solutions when it comes to sleeping, but their latest project in collaboration with British loudspeaker maker KEF is most certainly for those with deep pockets and somewhat eccentric sleep habits.
What is a Savoir Bed?
Savoir has been making bespoke beds since 1905 in the UK. Each bed is handmade by skilled craftspeople in either London or Wales from the finest natural materials for a customers’ specific desires. Savoir’s custom beds carry such a steep price tag that they reportedly only sell 1,000 beds a year.
The SEVENTY FIVE
Savoir’s latest bed model might perk up demand for music lovers. The luxury bed maker has teamed up with another British brand, KEF on their new model SEVENTY FIVE, which is being touted as the first luxury bed to come integrated with speakers.
Tip: Seventy Five refers to “the ideal number of beats per minute in a song that will help you relax”.
Who Is The Savoir SEVENTY FIVE for?
Ultimately it’s for those who like how it looks, sounds, and sleeps with the means to purchase a bespoke bed. But will you actually sleep better? Research suggests you just might.
From Dr. Rebecca Robbins: “Music has the potential to transport us, which is exactly what we need in order to fall asleep. In our go-go busy lives it is easy for the day to fly by filled with work tasks, then bedtime rolls around and many of us can struggle because we have not built in time to relax, unplug, and unwind. Music is one terrific way to separate from your busy day, transport yourself, and prepare the mind and body for sleep.”
The SEVENTY FIVE
The Bed
Savoir claims that each SEVENTY FIVE bed is the result of 150 hours of skilled craftsmanship. It boasts a distinctive design upholstered with two contrasting fabrics, with a headboard and base dressed in a luxurious Kvadrat x Raf Simmons fabric. The fabric is made from sustainably sourced wool and is said to complement the sound quality. There is also recycled Kirkby Design fabric on the back.
The bed is adorned with dark American walnut side tables integrated with wireless charging ports, seamlessly blending Savoir’s classic heritage with KEF’s modern engineering, which subtly enhances the masculine elements of this iconic No.2 bed.
The KEF Speakers
KEF’s contribution to the Savoir SEVENTY FIVE consists of two KEF Reference Series Ci3160REFM-THX speakers ($16,000/pair). These flagship in-wall audiophile-grade speakers are embedded within the curved headboard that envelops a person in a truly immersive sound stage. The speaker system is enhanced by six of KEF’s Kube 8b subwoofers ($3,600 for six) hidden in the base of the bed. Each subwoofer has an 8-inch driver powered by a 300-watt amplifier and plays down to 34 Hz.
Audio equipment installation is handled by Robert Taussig and is supposed to be included in the price. However, we suspect most buyers would want it connected through an existing whole-home audio system or smart home controller, which most likely adds costs.
Tech Note: Amplification and source components are a separate purchase.
Initial Thoughts
Everybody needs a good night’s sleep, and hopping into bed after a long day to listen to your favorite music seems like a great idea. But do you really need to spend over $100,000 to experience it with six subwoofers under your body while nestled in the finest bed money can buy? Maybe so!
Just remember, in addition to paying for the SEVENTY FIVE, you won’t hear anything unless its connected to a source such as a turntable, CD player, or music streamer with accompanying amplification and control — which will add more cost for the setup.
At the end of the day, when money is no object, why not get the best bedroom in town? I wouldn’t mind an excuse to stay in bed a little longer each day!
