Enables Netbook Users to Increase Storage While Maintaining Size and Cost Benefits, Available in 8GB or 16GB Capacities
SanDisk Corporation announced the SanDisk Netbook SDHC removable flash memory card, offering consumers an easy and affordable way to significantly increase their netbooks’ storage capacity. Consumers simply insert the SanDisk Netbook SDHC card into a netbook’s card slot to add capacity instantly. This news expands upon the previously announced next-generation SanDisk pSSD product family, which serve as drop-in replacements for hard disk drives (HDDs) in netbooks.
The SanDisk Netbook SDHC card gives consumers the ability to increase the netbook’s storage capacity by 8 or 16 gigabytes (GB), effectively doubling the storage space offered in most solid-state drive (SSD) powered netbook models. The card resides within the netbook, which decreases the risk of it being damaged while the netbook is moved.
Netbooks are small, low-cost computers that offer consumers a highly portable means of surfing the Internet, accessing email as well as enjoying their favorite music and videos on the go. Market researchers, IDC, project consumer purchases of netbooks to rise from 11.5 million sold in 2008 to 50 million in 2013. Despite their growing popularity, many netbook models are capacity-constrained, causing users to run out of storage space quickly, with few options for increasing memory.
“SanDisk is committed to offering flash memory products that create the best possible consumer experience,” said Eric Bone, vice president, retail product marketing, SanDisk. “Our Netbook SDHC card helps consumers get the most out of their netbooks by increasing storage capacity and providing a reliable means of transferring data from the netbook to a removable storage device or another PC.”
