Samsung has an extensive TV line-up, but not everyone is looking for a TV. A growing number of consumers are opting for a video projector solution, and UST (Ultra Short Throw) projectors (also referred to as Laser TVs) are becoming increasingly popular.
To meet the demand, there are several brands, including Samsung, that offer models designed for those who desire a large screen (90-inches or larger) experience but without the price tag of an OLED TV in the same screen size.
Samsung’s Premiere UST Projector lineup will be on display at CES 2024 and we have the details on the 4 new models.
The Premiere 8K
The Premiere 8K was previewed at the 2023 CES but was never released. I had a chance to see a pre-production version of the setup at that time, but at the 2024 CES, it will not only be shown but will finally be available for consumers to purchase beginning sometime this year.
The Premiere 8K incorporates several core features.
Resolution: The Premiere 8K projects an 8K resolution image via pixel shifting using a native 4K resolution DLP chip. To achieve 8K display resolution, the pixels on the 4K chip have to be shifted 4 times at 240Hz.
Ultra Short Thow: The Premiere 8K projects an image of up to 150 inches from just 12 inches from the wall, compared to roughly 5 meters needed for standard throw projectors.
Wireless Connectivity: A new Wireless One Connect Box transmits connected source content to the projector within 10 meters of the viewing area. It can be placed virtually anywhere, blending into the room with a design that features a lens cap and metal, wood, and rounded corner finishes.
Home Theater Audio: The Premiere 8K has a built-in 100-watt 8.2.2 channel audio system with Dolby Atmos and Sound-on-Screen technology. The Sound-on-screen feature elevates audio to feel as if it emanates from the screen, rather than from the projector.
AI Upscaling: The Premiere 8K delivers immersive picture quality in high resolution, with an AI upscaling engine that can transform 4K content to 8K.
Bright Images: With 4,000 lumens auto-brightness and triple-laser light, you can experience crisp-color immersion even in daylight.
Easy Setup: The Premiere 8K includes auto-keystone, auto-focus, screen scale, and side-lever height adjustment, with Smart Features built-in. It can also be utilized as a smart speaker in your living room – even when the screen is off.
The Premiere 5 (4K)
The Premiere 5 is a new lifestyle projector that incorporates an elegant design that looks clean from any angle and blends into any home.
Image Quality: The Premiere 5 delivers detailed, bright images at 4K resolution via pixel-shifting. Setup is easy with automatic focus and alignment for both the display and the touch-screen feature. It’s also a flexible smart speaker for immersive audio experiences.
Ultra Short Throw: When placed only 17 inches away from a wall, the Premiere can display up to a 100-inch image, automatically adjusting focus, keystone, and color balance to provide a perfect image.
Multi-Function Key: A single multi-function key makes it convenient to switch modes, including Ambient Mode, mobile connection, and a screen-off feature, which turns the screen off but keeps the audio on.
Screen Mirroring via Tap: The Premiere 5 can also mirror a smartphone display by simply tapping the phone on the top of the device – providing the ultimate easy setup. The Premiere 5 can mirror both the input and output functions of a wirelessly connected smartphone.
Portability: As the world’s most compact (7.9-inches H x 5.4-inches W x 5.4-inches D) triple-laser ultra-short-throw (UST) projector and touch interaction device, it seamlessly connects to multiple devices and is easy to move throughout the home with its lightweight design (3.7lbs).
Additional Tech Notes: In addition to large-screen projection, you can use the Premiere 5 as a second monitor or to decorate your own space.
The Premiere 5 also includes a tabletop accessory stand that allows it to project onto a desk or table and turn the display into a touch-sensitive projector.
It can be used as an entertainment media projector in the den, or serve as a touchscreen display for interactive tutorial videos or educational apps.
Premiere 7 and Premiere 9 (4K)
In addition to the new Premiere 8K and Premiere 5, Samsung will introduce the replacements for the current LSP7T and LSP9T, the new Premiere 7 and The Premiere 9.
These entries will be brighter, and feature a Quantum 4K processor, and Dolby Atmos sound for a more home theater-like viewing experience.
Additional Features
Three additional new features that Samsung is incorporating into its 2024 Premiere lineup include Light Warp, Gaming Hub, and Smart Speaker.
- Light Warp: This turns any object in the room into an interactive display surface. This is the first time projection mapping has been offered outside of the professional setting. With Light Warp, you can project any content on your surface and even create a customizable dashboard with widgets, like a clock, or the weather. It’s the world’s first integrated projection mapping technology for consumer devices, adding an exciting new capability for room design, parties, and information display.
- Gaming Hub: Just as with Samsung’s Smart TVs, Gaming Hub will also be included in Premiere projectors. This provides access to thousands of game titles and no game console is required.
- Smart Speaker: All Premiere line projectors can also be used as a smart speaker in your living room – even when screen projection is off
Tip: More details regarding features, specifications, availability, and pricing for Samsung’s Premiere Line projectors are still forthcoming either during or after CES.
