UNION CITY, CALIFORNIA –January 14, 2005 — Runco International, Inc., the world leader in high-end home theater video display technology, announced that its VX-2c Projection System was named a finalist in the 2005 Consumer Electronics Association’s Mark of Excellence Awards. The VX-2c System was chosen as a finalist for the category of Video Display of the Year for its ability to create smooth, lifelike, and incredibly bright images, with a powerful, 3-chip DLP light engine. And with its diverse range of integration options and upgradeable software, the projection system stands as a model of instant flexibility and future-expandability.
“Everyone at Runco is very proud of what we’ve achieved in the VX-2c Projection System, and having its outstanding capabilities recognized by the Consumer Electronics Association makes the results of our work all the more exciting,” said Bob Hana, president of Runco International. “We’ve all worked very hard to put into the VX-2c the kinds of impressive features and benefits that viewers and installers can only find in Runco International’s products. We feel the VX-2c System is unmatched in its quality of performance, reliability, and ability to integrate with today’s high-tech video sources and home control systems. It’s an honor to have CEA single out our efforts.”
The Mark of Excellence Awards, presented by CEA’s TechHome Division, recognizes the best in home automation products, services, and installed technology. The VX-2c Projection System was named a finalist for the category of Video Display of the Year, one of twenty categories reviewed by a panel of fifteen independent industry experts. Judges include custom system designers & integrators, industry analysts & consultants, members of the trade press, and more. Products competing for Video Display of the Year are rated based on benefits provided to designers/installers such as ease of integration and programming, and time to install; as well as end-user benefits such as image quality, ease of use, aesthetic design, and ability to improve daily lifestyle.
The VX-2c Projection System combines Runco’s exclusive SuperOnyx technology with 3 of TI’s HD-2+ chips, eliminating the color wheel, and achieving superior clarity, color saturation, and contrast for the ultimate widescreen home theater experience. The projection system includes the next generation DHD Digital High-Definition Video Controller and Processor, which is specifically programmed to enhance the video reproduction capabilities of the VX-2c projector. The Controller uses ViVix II technology to enhance all source material with digital precision for unsurpassed clarity when presenting images on a variety of screen sizes and aspect ratios. It optimizes signal reproduction for Anamorphic, Letterbox, and 4:3 ratios, and its VirtualWide feature converts 4:3 images for maximum performance on 16:9 screens. The DHD Controller and VX-2c Projector require only a single DVI cable for connection with one another, which speeds installations and allows the projector to be mounted in locations that are out-of-reach of typical home theater projectors.
The VX-2c was the first Runco projector to have integrated the company’s exclusive LiveLink signal preservation technology. LiveLink is the only existing solution for transmitting purely digital signals via DVI cable without any loss in picture quality or bandwidth, even after cable runs up to 125 feet.
Runco International offers the VX-2c Projection System to be equipped with the CineWide with AutoScope. This technology ensures uncompromised widescreen reproduction of movies originally filmed in the CinemaScope 2.35:1 format. The new AutoScope function allows users to engage the 2.35:1 processing electronics and motorized lens assembly via remote control. Through a combination of electronics and optics, each projector is able to take full advantage of every pixel on its DMD chips, thereby producing a 2.35 image with enhanced resolution and increased brightness.
Winners of the Mark of Excellence awards, whom are chosen from the finalists, will be announced on February 25th at the Mark of Excellence banquet held in Orlando, Florida during the Spring Electronic House Expo.
The VX-2c Projection System received Custom Retailer magazine’s Excite Award in late 2004 for encouraging and exemplifying progress of the custom installation industry. Runco’s LiveLink DVI Cabling System was named Electronic House publishing’s Product of the Year in 2004.
