Roth Audio introduced the OLi POWA-5 active speakers with a built-in 80-watt amplifier and wireless Bluetooth. Connectivity includes 1 x pair RCA analogue connecters (e.g. CD player), 1 x 3.5mm stereo jack input (e.g. MP3 player), 2 x optical inputs (e.g. Sky box, and DVD player), and – for ultimate convenience – a built-in Bluetooth receiver (for wireless connection to music-enabled mobile phones, tablets, laptops, desktops, etc. In addition there are two USB outputs to provide power to mobile devices.
Domestic possibilities for the POWA-5 include placing them either side of the TV and using them to replace the weedy sound emitted by most of today’s flat screen TVs. Fans of even bigger movie bangs, can even hook-up a subwoofer via the POWA-5’s subwoofer output. And when not watching TV, users can play music through the Roths via the likes of the Bluetooth wireless option. The active monitors are also a terrific when used in a computer set-up – not only do they deliver great music, but also come into their own when delivering sound from gaming and also TV catch-up services, such as ITV Player. The kitchen and bedroom aren’t able to resist the POWA-5 charms, either – simply load the likes of BBC iPlayer Radio and you’re able to blast out your favourite stations in room- filling, high-quality stereo.
The POWA-5 also aims to get down and dirty in the coalface of the music world – the recording studio. The active design perfectly compliments pro music technical requirements, and the clear and faithful audio reproduction makes the Roth monitors eminently suitable to recording duties.
