in its smallest and most affordable powered subwoofer
CEDIA EXPO 2006, DENVER, CO., Sept. 14, 2006. — PSB Speakers, maker of high-performance speaker systems, is raising the bar again with the introduction of the new SubSeries 1 powered subwoofer.
According to PSB founder and chief designer Paul Barton, the SubSeries 1 is a perfect encapsulation of the original purpose of the company’s famous Alpha Series, which was completely redesigned earlier this year. “The whole idea of the Alpha Series,” Barton says, “is to do the really surprising–to provide performance far beyond what you expect at that price. The SubSeries 1 definitely does that. Not only does this budget subwoofer shake the house when the soundtrack demands it but it has great definition and musical accuracy.”
The Alpha SubSeries 1 provides more power than the previous SubZero i offering 110 watts of continuous power with a highly efficient amplifier capable of delivering up to 280 watts of dynamic peak power. Greater sustained power is achieved from a 1-1/2 inch voice coil that helps handle high continuous output without thermal power compression. PSBs sophisticated anti-overload circuitry allows the SubSeries 1 to sail musically through material–both with short-term peak demands and sustained high power–that cause audible problems with many subwoofers.
The SubSeries 1 is also updated with a heavier 8-inch polypropylene cone woofer using a substantial 48 oz. magnet assembly to provide fast, controlled and lifelike lows.
The extended low-frequency response, measured at 3dB down to 36Hz with useful output all the way down to 32Hz, is due to the new oversized rubber surround that enables the driver cone to make very long excursions.
Front-panel controls make it easy to adjust volume, crossover frequency and phase for the best performance in any room. The SubSeries 1 is video shielded to allow placement right next to, or under, a TV monitor.
The SubSeries 1 is ideally matched with the PSB Alpha and Image Series models and is available in Black Ash and Maple finishes.
The SubSeries 1 is currently shipping at a suggested US retail price of $349 and can be seen with all of PSB’s other fine products in Booth #122 at the Colorado Convention Center during the CEDIA EXPO 2006.
