CEDIA EXPO 2006, DENVER, CO., Sept. 14, 2006– PSB Speakers, long renowned for affordable excellence, will introduce six new CustomSound high value in-wall speaker solutions, the CW28, CW26, CW80R, CW88R, CW60R and CW50R during CEDIA Expo ’06 in Denver today.
Meeting the challenge of reasonably priced in-wall speakers ideal for whole- house and home theater applications without sonic compromise, PSB delivers six new CustomSound Series models. The CW28 and CW26 are rectangular 2-way designs, whereas the CW80R, CW88R, CW60R and CW50R are 2-way round coaxial models that can be installed in the wall or ceiling. All are optimized for a neutral and balanced sound.
“It is our intention to be a leader in custom installation with the traditional PSB attributes of great sound quality and value,” says David Smith, Director of Product Development for PSB. “These new models expand our CustomSound offerings providing installers a broad range of in-wall and in-ceiling solutions with exceptional performance and value.”
In-wall loudspeakers must deal with limited space within the confines behind the wall. Wall cavities are not built to any standard volume so open back in-wall speakers must work within a wide range of wall cavity volumes. PSB accomplishes this by giving the woofers higher mass and stiffness than with conventional “in room” enclosures. Extensive simulations and testing were used to create speakers that deliver high-performance sound quality with a broad range of wall cavity volumes.
All models employ full 2nd order high-pass and low-pass crossover filtering to enhance system power handling and achieve a smooth and very well balanced sound.
CW28/CW26
The CW28 and CW26 are two-way rectangular speakers and are essentially the same, except the CW28 employs a 8-inch woofer and the CW26 uses a 6.5 woofer. Both utilize fiberglass textured polypropylene cones designed for high power handling, delivering a smooth response with an extended bandwidth. Each is fitted with a 1-inch tweeter that has a 2-piece diaphragm and suspension to ensure minimal resonance and distortion. The tweeter uses a pivoting mount so it can be aimed directly at the listening area. Two response tailoring 3 – position rotary switches allow subtle balance adjustments to the midrange and tweeter levels for optimizing room acoustics and listener tastes.
CW80R/CW88R
The CW80R and CW88R are 2-way coaxial designs with the tweeter mounted over the woofer. Each use 8-inch woofers made of fiberglass textured polypropylene cones designed for high power handling, delivering a smooth response with an extended bandwidth. The CW80R uses a 1-inch pivoting tweeter with a 2-piece diaphragm and suspension to ensure minimal resonance and distortion. What makes the CW88R different is it is outfitted with a dual 1-inch tweeter array and it’s woofer has dual voice coils making to possible to reproduce the left and right channels from a single speaker.
CW60R/CW50R
The CW60R and CW50R are both 2-way coaxial designs with the tweeter mounted over the woofer. They use a 3⁄4-inch tweeter with a 2-piece diaphragm and suspension for low resonance and distortion. The tweeters use a pivoting mount so it can be aimed toward the listening area. The CW60R employs a 6.5-inch woofer, whereas the CW50R is built with the slightly smaller 5.25-inch driver. Both use the same fiberglass textured polypropylene cone design that is found on all the other new models.
Each model is outfitted with the popular ‘dog leg’ mounting clamps quick and simple installation. Fully enclosed back boxes, which eliminate the unknown variable of cavity volume, are also available. For additional bass response, the CWS8 in-wall passive subwoofer with the CWA-1 subamplifier combination is a perfect match with all of these CustomSound models.
The /b{CW28, CW26, CW80R, CW88R CW60R} and CW50R can be seen with all of PSB’s other fine products in Booth #122 at the Colorado Convention Center during the CEDIA EXPO 2006.
