AW8070V Makes It Easy For Installers Doing Larger Sound Systems With A Single Amplifier
Designing outdoor audio systems for large properties just became a lot easier, thanks to the introduction of Proficient Audio’s AW8070V.
This speaker is designed for use with 70-volt audio systems. A 70-volt system allows a single amplifier to power many speakers. It also permits speakers to be “daisy-chained,” or connected to each other rather than requiring a separate cable from each speaker to the amplifier. All of these characteristics greatly simplify the design of indoor or outdoor sound systems for large properties.
The AW8070V employs a rugged, weather-resistant ABS housing and a powder-coated perforated aluminum grille. The speaker contains two 1-1/4-inch aluminum-dome tweeters that pivot to direct the sound where desired. The dual tweeters provide coverage over a larger area than a single tweeter can, without requiring the installer to mount two speakers in each coverage area. An 8-inch polypropylene-cone woofer provides the bass. A tilting bracket with theft deterrent security bolts secures the speaker to a wall, eave, fence, or post.
Thanks to the AW8070V’s transformer tap switch, the installer can adjust the level of each speaker in a system individually even if all are powered from the same amp. Four settings (8, 16, 32, and 64 watts) are available, and there’s also a 4-ohm transformer bypass setting that allows the speaker to be used with conventional audio systems.
The AW8070V retails for $435 each and is available in black or white. It is rated to handle up to 90 watts of power, with sensitivity of 89 dB and frequency response of 70 Hz to 20 kHz. It measures H 9 x W 16 x D 9 inches.
“The AW8070V is a more economical way to go when you need really big coverage,” said Keith Marshall, President of Proficient Audio. “It lets you run speaker cables practically as long as you want, attach as many speakers as you need, and power the whole system with a single 70-volt amplifier, so it eliminates most of the problems of using conventional audio gear in large backyards and estates.”
