The Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder 2 is a Pocket VCR that makes it easy for you to watch your favorite video programs outside the house. iPods now play video, but they don’t let you record your favorite shows. Other portable recorders with built-in hard drives and color screens cost $400 or more.
This miniature VCR records not on VHS tapes but on the compact flash cards that work with your digital camera, as well as postage-stamp-size Memory Stick Duo cards. (Slip one into a Sony PlayStation Portable game-playing-Web-surfing-movie-viewing handheld, and instantly watch recorded shows on the go.)
Just like a VCR, the Recorder 2 doesn’t have a screen. You can use the screen of some cell phones, the latest iPod, or your TV to watch what you’ve recorded. With the Recorder 2, you can save DVD, VHS or TV or cable shows to the memory card in the Recorder 2, then take the device on vacation and plug it into the hotel room TV. Or, take the compact flash card out of your camera, plug it into the Recorder 2 and take it to the in-laws’ place to view a photo slide show. The Recorder 2 also plays music files.
