JACKSONVILLE, FL — December 27, 2004 — Phase Technology, the innovative leader in custom home speaker technology, will ship the newest addition to its Custom Installation series, the CI-70 Series VII Rectangular In-Wall Speaker in February of 2005. This three-way speaker is the first to utilize Phase Technology’s exclusive tool-less baffle mounting system, which makes for incredibly fast and clean audio system installations. It also uses Phase Technology’s Universal Flange and Grille, allowing highly cost-efficient job staging, and instant up- and downgrades between five Custom Installation series models. The CI-70 will be offered with a suggested retail price of $425.00 each.
The CI-70 Series VII features three-way performance with a mid-range driver and user-adjustable tweeter, each mounted off-axis to produce exceptional clarity and expanded dynamics over an entire collection of movies and music. As part of the Series VII, the CI-70 combines the benefits of Phase Technology’s Universal Flanges and Grilles as well as its patent-pending screwless mounting system. These features let installers mount flanges and grilles before speakers for prewiring and painting or wallpapering, then install the speakers just prior to move-in. Installing speaker baffles doesn’t require any screws, because the Series VII baffles have four flip-latches that swivel to instantly lock onto flange mounting posts. Series VII also lets customers exchange original speakers at any time with one of four other models that fit the same universal flange. And because speaker baffles can be removed without removing the flanges, installers won’t have to retouch paint.
“We designed the new Series VII to solve the challenges that custom installers repeatedly face when designing home theaters and audio systems,” said Roberta Lewis, vice president of sales and marketing at Phase Technology. “The CI-70–and every Series VII speaker–saves time and money on each audio system and home theater with a design that speeds installations and perfectly integrates in any style interior. And because they use our signature features, like the soft-dome tweeter and our Absolute Phase crossover, Series VII speakers provide the performance that has gained Phase Technology a reputation for audio innovation.”
The CI-70 features a 7″ cone woofer__the largest in the Custom Installation series__made from mineral-filled, injection-molded polypropylene, for a high stiffness-to-mass ratio that produces powerful lows while maintaining tight response. The speaker’s 1″ tweeter and 1.5″ mid-range drivers use Phase Technology’s patented soft dome design, adapted from the PC 9.1 tower, and are mounted off-axis to avoid the diffracted effects that build between sound waves produced by vertically aligned drivers. In addition, the user-adjustable tweeter enables sound to be directed to the listening area to enhance the overall entertainment experience.
Phase Technology’s CI Series VII is the first speaker family to use the exclusive, tool-less mounting baffle. Combined with Phase Technology’s Universal Flange and Grille, the Series VII is the most flexible in-wall solution available today. Each baffle features four flip-latches that swivel to instantly lock onto flange mounting posts, which means installers don’t have to touch a single screw when attaching them to flanges. And each flange is universally designed to accept five different CI-Rectangular models so installers can fully prepare job sites and order speakers only when homeowners are ready. The exclusive baffles also let installers quickly upgrade and downgrade speakers at any time without having to retouch any paint since baffles are easily removed from flanges, which can stay in the wall.
The CI-70 Series VII features Phase Technology’s Absolute Phase Crossover, which ensures all drivers operate acoustically and electronically in-phase. This guarantees a deep and defined soundstage that reveals no seams even when sound effects traverse vertical or horizontal extremes of the listening area. With seats positioned off-center and speakers installed in out-of-the-way positions_even turned on their side_the CI-70’s Absolute Phase Crossover does away with the concept of a sweet spot, giving every listener an equally immersive movie and music experience.
Furthermore, Phase Technology incorporated its Low Level Linearity in the CI-70’s design, which maintains proper balance between treble and bass tones for a precisely detailed performance even when speakers are used at background volumes.

About Phase Technology
Phase Technology Corporation (toll-free at 888-PHASE TK; website at www.phasetech.com) is one of the few fully-vertically integrated American speaker manufacturers. The company started as United Speaker Systems in 1955 as an original equipment manufacturer and still designs and produces its own sub-assemblies in-house. Phase Technology’s speaker lines incorporate many proprietary innovations like the soft-dome tweeter, the industry’s standard invented by Bill Hecht, founder of Phase Technology. Other patents cover the self-damping woofer voice coil, the manufacturing process for flat-piston midrange drivers and woofers, silicone-injected drivers for resonance damping, and the positive-clamping mounting system for the premier in-wall Model CI-110/II. The company also developed the Unicell Zero-Diffraction treatment that reduces acoustic reflections off cabinet and grille surfaces. Phase Technology manufactures its wood cabinets by hand and performs quality control tests at every step of the fabrication process.
Building on five decades of design and engineering innovation in the manufacture of high quality, yet affordable speakers, Phase Technology supports its products with a 10-year warranty on speakers, while amplifiers are backed by a 3-year warranty. Phase Technology’s digital home theater, audiophile, outdoor, in-wall/in-ceiling custom installation speakers, as well as powered and in-wall subwoofers are constructed at the company’s Jacksonville, Florida facility.
