Perlisten Audio, a relative newcomer in the speaker space is starting off 2022 with the introduction of its R series speakers. The R Series loudspeakers will debut at the Florida Audio Expo, February 18-20, in Tampa, FL.
The flagship model of the series profiled in this article is the R7t. This speaker features a four-way bass reflex/acoustic suspension design that features some of the performance characteristics of its larger Perlisten Audio cousin, the S7t.
The R-Series & THX
The R-series speakers have also gone through the THX certification process, earning both THX Ultra and THX Dominus Certifications.
According to Dan Roemer, Perlisten Audio CEO: “Since we first appeared on the scene early last year, the S series – and the S7t in particular – has been continually lauded for its detail, range, and sense of realism, and the THX Certified Dominus achievement bridges the gap between home and commercial theater performance. The R Series is a further expression of our commitment to creating the ultimate listening experience, with technologies and designs that are unique to Perlisten Audio products.”
- THX Ultra Certification means that the speaker is optimized for rooms to 3,000 cubic feet and a 12-foot viewing distance from the screen. The R7t is THX Certified Ultra when used as a left-center-right (LCR) channel speaker.
- THX Dominus Certification means that the speaker is optimized for rooms as large as 6,500 cubic feet, and up to a 20-foot viewing distance from the screen. The R7t is THX Certified Dominus when used as a surround speaker.
DPC & HPF
One innovative feature incorporated into the R series speakers is the patent-pending Direct Pattern Control (DPC) waveguide. The waveguide uses three (3) 26mm domes, resulting in precise directivity control and timbre matching with all R-Series speakers. Three silk diaphragms are also used. This provides a smooth, effortless presentation of midrange and treble.
Four woofers are incorporated into the R7t and 2 in the R5t. Each one measures 165mm and is made from proprietary HPF (Hybrid Pulp Formulation) cone material. HPF is a mix of long fiber hardwood, bamboo, and wool. Its strength, mass, and damping ensure a detailed, full-range response without coloration.
- Tip: The woofers may be aligned as either bass reflex or acoustic suspension, depending upon the listener’s tastes or application.
