Panamax Releases New Groundbreaking Uninterrupted Power Supply

PETALUMA, CA — September 2, 2004 — Panamax, the leading manufacturer of power conditioning and protection products, announced the introduction of the MAX Home Cinema Uninterrupted Power Supply (MHC-UPS). The MHC-UPS is designed to ensure top performance from home theater components such as high-definition plasmas and surround sound systems. The 1500VA, rack-mountable unit delivers filtered and surge-protected power to connected equipment and can safely shut down equipment during power outages. The MHC-UPS will be available late 4th quarter.

“The MAX Home Cinema UPS is the ultimate solution for guaranteeing total protection and maximum performance from home theater equipment,” said Don King, director of product marketing at Panamax. “The MHC-UPS provides clean, constant power to home theater systems and provides the time needed for manual or automatic safe-state shut-down of sensitive electronics if the power goes out.”

Panamax’s MHC-UPS features six AC outlets split into two isolated banks of 2 and 4 outlets. Installers can designate the 2-outlet bank as a “critical load” bank and program a battery threshold so that, in an extended blackout, power for the 4-outlet bank is turned off at the designated level and all remaining power is reserved for the critical equipment. Installers can also program the MHC-UPS to dispatch IR shut-down commands for equipment that can be damaged by a sudden power loss. For instance, the UPS can trigger a stand-by mode in a DLP projector in which its fan will remain on until the lamp is cooled. End users can easily replace the unit’s battery.

The MHC-UPS provides automatic over and under-voltage protection and enhanced filtration of electromagnetic (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI). This guarantees noise-sensitive theater components receive pure, filtered power for the best performance. The UPS also provides an RS232 control interface which allows it to be programmed for stand-alone use or integrated with home automation systems. Software for PC’s is included. The communications protocol is open so that installers can also use other software for programming and control.
