Optoma’s UHZ35 4K Laser Projector Offers WiSA Wireless Audio: Preview

At $1,699, the Optoma UHZ35 is high brightness standard throw 4K laser projector for movies and gaming with WiSA support.

Optoma UHZ35 4K Laser Projector for Gaming

Popular video projector maker Optoma has added the UHZ35 4K UHD laser projector to its product lineup. The UHZ35 is designed for those on a budget who need a projector for both movies, TV and gaming. This high brightness, yet compact projector features 3500 lumens of light output which offers flexibility for viewing with lights on.

UHZ35 is built on the foundation of the previously released UHZ35ST, which incorporates a short-show lens, while the UHZ35 has a standard throw lens. This means that the Optoma UHZ35 requires a longer projector-to-screen distance in order to display an equivalent size image as the UHZ35ST.

DLP 4K Pixel Shifting

Just as the UHZ35ST and many other 4K UHD DLP projectors, the UHZ35 incorporates a .47-inch 1080p resolution DLP imaging chip (aka DMD – Digital Micromirror Device) from Texas Instruments. The chip contains 2.1 million pixels (very tiny mirrors). However, to display 4K, 8.3 million pixels are required. As a result, the pixels on the 1080p chip are shifted both vertically and horizontally at 240Hz (240 times per second). This is so fast it is classified as a 4K image once displayed on the screen.

UHZ35 Laser System

The UHZ35 continues the trend of replacing a projector lamp with a laser light source, which eliminates the need for lamp replacement every 2,000 to 5,000 hours of use. Instead, the UHZ35 laser system has an expected lifespan of 30,000 use hours.

Optoma UHZ35 4K Laser Projector

The UHZ35 laser system is a part of Optoma’s DuraCore-branded Technology. The laser light source maintains stable operation over its entire life with no gradual decay. No periodic lamp replacement is needed.

Also, a laser light source does not require any “warm-up” time when turned on, and cool downtime is shorter in comparison to lamp-based projectors. For those who are concerned about toxic elements, a laser light source is Mercury-Free making the projector more eco-friendly.

The UHZ35 features an airtight optical engine with IP6X certification. The airtight enclosure prevents dust particles from entering and ensures long-lasting reliable performance.

The combination of its 4K UHD display and laser light source technologies, the UHZ35 is capable of providing an excellent cinema viewing experience, but it is also designed to be a great gaming projector.

Gaming Support

The UHZ35 supports 4K/60Hz and 240Hz/1080p refresh rates with additional MEMC (Motion Estimation, Motion Compensation) processing. The 240Hz refresh rate at 1080p input lag of only 4.4ms for PC gaming, combined with a 16.9ms response at 4K/60Hz provides flexibility for any gaming console.

Golf Sim Picture Mode

Golf Sim picture mode delivers true-to-life greens and blues and impressive detailing even with the lights on. Carefully created to provide optimum color grading for golf simulation setups.

Pro Tip: Please ensure the projector has the latest firmware for access to this feature. For further assistance, contact Optoma Customer Service.

WiSA

With video projectors, audio is often considered an afterthought as the primary emphasis is on providing really big images. However, there are many projectors, including the UHZ35 that do have a modest built-in speaker system. However, Optoma has secured the use of WiSA technology for added audio setup flexibility.
With WiSA SoundSend certification the UHZ35 can deliver wireless audio in combination with other WiSA-certified products.

WiSA enables high-quality audio to be transmitted and received wirelessly via SoundSend with perfect synchronization and no perceivable latency.

From Billy Harrison, Product Manager at Optoma: “With consumers seeking flexible projection solutions for a variety of home usage scenarios that deliver incredible brightness and true-to-life color, the UHZ35 is the ideal projector to enjoy the big screen experience and new levels of competitive AAA gaming and home entertainment...”

The Bottom Line

The UHZ35 is an interesting entry into the Optoma projector line-up. It has most of the core features and specifications as the previously released UHZ35ST but incorporates a standard throw lens assembly. If you have a smaller space the UHZ35ST might be a better choice. However, the UHZ35 is priced at $400 less.

Price & Availability

The UHZ35 is available for $1,699 at Amazon and ProjectorScreen.

The UHZ35ST is available for $2,199 at Amazon and ProjectorScreen.
