Infocomm 2023 just concluded and whilst the show is focused on the latest in audio and display technology for business and institutional applications, there are always a few products for the consumer market that stand out.
There are two new projectors from Optoma that deserve attention, the compact ML1080 and ML1080ST. These projectors are extremely compact and portable but don’t sacrifice performance features. Let’s take a closer look.
Core Features
Standard and Short Throw Versions: The ML1080 and ML1080ST incorporate the same features with one exception, they have different lens assemblies. The ML1080ST can project a 100-inch image from a distance of 5 feet, while the ML1080 requires a longer projector-to-screen distance of about 8 feet/9-inches to project a 100-inch image.
Light Engine: Both projectors incorporate Optoma’s DuraCore RGB Triple Laser light source for consistent white and color light output that supports up to 30,000 hours of use.
Display Technology: ML1080 series projectors incorporate a DLP Imaging Chip. In addition to the laser light source, the image information is provided by a DLP imaging chip (aka DMD – Digital Micromirror Device) from Texas Instruments. The DLP chip has 2.1 million pixels (1080p FHD resolution), which are very tiny mirrors that angle back and forth very rapidly to produce the light and dark parts of the image in combination with the reflected laser light source that adds color.
Time-of-Flight (ToF) Technology: This delivers automatic geometric and focus correction to create precisely proportioned projected images. Four-corner correction provides a quick place-and-play projected image setup.
USB-C Power: Home users can take advantage of the convenient USB-C power input port, enabling them to use PD 3.0 portable charging batteries, to enjoy video content on the go for outdoor movies, camping, holidays, and more.
Creative Cast Compatible: Via the Optoma Creative Cast App (iOS, Android), you can access the following capabilities with the ML1080 and ML1080ST projectors:
- Mirror the screen from your laptop or mobile device.
- Wirelessly broadcast, share, or stream photos and documents from a laptop or mobile device.
- Share content between rooms and control your presenting device from the palm of your hand.
