Legendary Maker’s Onyx Platinum Brings Out the Best in Recordings, Setting the Standard for Analog Sound Reproduction
Koetsu USA, the U.S. distribution arm of the world-renowned Japanese cartridge manufacturer, introduces into the U.S. market the Koetsu Onyx Platinum Phono Cartridge, a superb example of the cartridge maker’s art, at the 2009 International Consumer Electronics Show, beginning here today.
The Onyx Platinum Phono Cartridge by Koetsu, a legendary company whose turntable cartridges set the standard for analog sound reproduction, is an exquisite achievement designed to delight phono aficionados for its uncanny ability to bring LPs to life, and listeners closer to their music. Handmade by Koetsu’s legendary craftsmen, the Onyx Platinum brings out the best in recordings through a beautifully extended, three-dimensional soundstage that exhibits more detail and resolution, greater dynamics, and a broader bandwidth. It provides a highly realistic musical performance suffused with warmth, naturally saturated tonal colors, well-defined bass, a grain-free idrange, and silky highs.
Weighing 12.5 grams, its hand-carved, oblong onyx body houses 10 turns of silver-plated, hand-wound copper coil wire, a platinum magnet, and a boron rod cantilever. The copper is 99.9999 percent pure. The cartridge’s iron plate formers are also ultra-pure and selected for their predictable magnetic characteristics and low oxidation. A special rare-earth magnetic material, samarium-cobalt (SmCo), is used with the Onyx’s platinum magnets, and Koetsu precisely grinds the Onyx’s specially designed stylus.
The Koetsu Onyx Platinum Phono Cartridge is available now at a suggested price of $8,000. It can be seen with other outstanding Koetsu USA products at Suite 29-235 at the Venetian Hotel, during CES.
