HDMI repeater switching, comprehensive video upconversion, 7×105 Watts, and powerful suite of integration and control features
Onkyo has begun shipping the TX-SR804, a THX Select2 Certified 7.1 channel home theater receiver that delivers powerful features for simple and flexible integration of even the most demanding home theater systems. The receiver boasts seven 105-watt amplifier channels, XM ready satellite radio compatibility, and advanced HDMI repeater switching with upconversion of all video sources to HDMI for simple one-cable connection of compatible source and display equipment.
The TX-SR804 features a pair of rear panel HDMI inputs and one output for carrying uncompressed high definition (HD) video in all HD formats — including 720p, 1080i and 1080p. It is capable of converting all component, composite, and S-video source signals to HDMI, requiring only a single connection to HDMI compatible video displays. Finally, HDMI repeater switching enables the TX-SR804 to process multichannel digital audio programming from HDMI while still passing digital information through the same cable to HDMI compatible display devices.
Designed with the future in mind, the TX-SR804 also includes 7.1 multichannel inputs to ensure compatibility with newly emerging formats, including the HD and lossless audio formats that are part of the new HD-DVD and Blu-Ray disc technologies. These inputs feature defeatable bass management, which allows the receiver to apply global speaker and subwoofer routing and crossover settings no matter what the audio source and signal type. The subwoofer crossover points are independently selectable for each loudspeaker pair, providing optimal integration with any speaker arrangement.
For other connectivity needs, there are three component video, five S-video, and five composite video inputs, as well as transcoding of all composite and S-video inputs to component video, with time base correction. One A/V input, including optical jack, is located on the front panel for easy connection of A/V or audio devices such as camcorders or portable MP3 players.
The TX-SR804 provides listeners with maximum flexibility, offering a wide range of options for multi-room audio distribution and control, including the ability to process two A/V sources simultaneously, or send the same signal to both the main zone and systems in other rooms. Onkyo’s Powered Zone 2 feature lets it employ two of the receiver’s internal amplifier channels to power speakers in a second room while still providing a full 5.1 channel home theater system in the main room.
The receiver features processing and decoding for THX Surround EX, Dolby Digital EX and ProLogic IIx, DTS-ES, Neo:6, and the DTS-96/24 audio formats, and is equipped with a powerful 32-bit DSP for digital audio programming. The high quality 192 kHz/24-bit DAC found on each channel is combined with Onkyo’s VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry) to smooth analog output, generating cleaner audio reproduction.
The TX-SR804 features a high quality AM/FM tuner with 40 presets, and comes with a powerful backlit preprogrammed/learning remote control. For integration with advanced control systems and additional equipment, the receiver includes IR input and output jacks, bidirectional RS-232 port, and a Zone 2 12 Volt trigger output.
Onkyo’s THX Select2 certified TX-SR804 is currently available in both black and silver finishes at a suggested retail price of $1,099.
