NHT Absolute Wall Speaker

NHT announced the new Absolute Wall Speaker, an affordable, low profile, flush mount on-wall speaker added to their Classic product line, joining its siblings the Absolute Zero, Absolute Tower, and Absolute Center. The Wall Speaker, which is only 4″ deep, can be flipped vertically to optimize tweeter performance for different installation heights.

“This new design provides a very important solution when assembling a music or home theater system,” says John Johnsen, NHT's head of marketing. “Until now, we've recommended wall mounting our bookshelf speakers when there is no floor or shelf space available for them. That recommendation however has drawbacks — the speakers stick out from the wall like a hunting trophy and the mounts are typically expensive and often difficult to install. Most importantly, speakers suffer sonically unless they are specifically 'tuned' to be in direct proximity to a wall.

“The new Absolute Wall Speaker is designed to perform best when flush against the wall. It installs with a single screw and its low four-inch profile keeps it from intruding into the room offering minimalist aesthetics while providing revered NHT Sonics.”

Similar to many C/L/R “flat panel” speakers, the Absolute Wall Speaker is at home flanking a flat panel TV. But, as Johnsen notes, the speaker's unique design allows for a variety of applications.

“It's ideal for all home theater channels with the exception of the center, for which we already have solutions,” says Johnsen. “At last, home theater surround width and height channels have a natural companion whose appearance doesn't dominate a room. Also, it provides a real alternative for distributed audio when in-wall or in-ceiling products aren't viable. And the speaker is quite compelling for use in upscale light commercial fixed installations.”

NHT's Absolute Wall Speaker will be packaged with simple, integrated hardware for flush mounting on any wall. The frequency response (85Hz — 21kHZ +/- 3dB) is nearly identical to that of the very popular Absolute Zero. The dimensions are 13″ H x 4″ D x 5.75″ W and weight is 11lbs. It will be available in both black and white gloss hand-rubbed finishes.

Price and Availability
The NHT Absolute Wall Speaker will be available November 2011 for $199 each.
