WOODLAND HILLS, CA — December 4, 2004 — Connectivity solutions provider Gefen today announced the release of its CAT5-5000 HD, a KVM extender capable of spanning distances up to 150 feet. The CAT5-5000 HD utilizes a new chip technology capable of sending DVI digital video plus USB and optional digital audio signals over CAT-5 cables, offering an alternative to some of the costs associated with DVI copper and fiber optics cabling.
The extender works through a sender unit connected to the computer and a receiver unit connected to the extended peripherals; CAT-5 cables link the sender to the receiver.
The slim, rackmountable units come equipped with two DVI connectors that support the extension of two digital displays. USB is provided for a keyboard/mouse connection but could be used for any USB device. Optional digital audio support is offered for SPDIF or optical signal extension over CAT-5 cable. High resolutions up to 1920×1200 are supported. A five-volt power supply feeds the system.
The CAT5-5000 HD is often used to isolate computer fan noise in sound sensitive post-production facilities, and enables computer equipment to be centralized in safe, temperature-controlled environments.
Additional information on Gefen’s entire line of KVM extenders and the CAT5-5000 HD ($1299) may be found at www.gefen.com, where products may be purchased directly or through one of Gefen’s resellers listed online.
