For over 50 years, Monitor Audio has been producing high quality loudspeakers speakers from Cambridge, England. The company continues to innovate with a steady flow of product updates. Just this year they’ve released the Studio 89 stand-mount loudspeakers along with an outdoor Climate Series range of speakers. But today the company is updating their Gold Series loudspeaker line priced from $2,250 to $7,000 per pair.
Now in its 6th generation, the new Monitor Audio Gold Series 6G replaces the Gold Series 5G from 2019. The new range brings of host of innovations implemented from the company’s flagship Platinum Series and Hyphn loudspeakers, while adding an on-wall speaker option.
Monitor Audio’s Gold Series 6G is currently sandwiched between the Silver Series 7G and Platinum Series 3G, and is designed to offer two-channel and home theater solutions at competitive price points in contemporary finishes.
There are six models in the Gold Series 6G Speaker line-up:
- Gold 50 6G Bookshelf Speaker ($2,250/pair)
- Gold 100 6G Bookshelf Speaker ($4,000/pair)
- Gold 300 6G: Floorstanding Speaker ($5,250/pair)
- Gold 500 6G: Floorstanding Speaker ($7,000/pair)
- Gold On-Wall 6G On-Wall Speaker ($2,700/pair)
- Gold C250 6G Center Channel Speaker ($2,250/each)
Gold 6G Features
Here is a brief overview of what all the speakers in the Gold Series 6G line share.
Transparent Design Philosophy: The Gold Series 6G speakers carry on Monitor Audio’s R&D approach of maintaining a balance between design and technology, both equally important.
Musical neutrality and acoustic transparency are balanced within physical speaker designs to provide optimized blending into the environments the speakers will be used in.
Metal Cones: The Gold Series 6G incorporates a new metal cone in the form of Hexagonal Diaphragm Technology (HDT). HDT draws on the RDT III cones utilized in the ground-breaking Hyphn and the flagship Platinum Series 3G, which consists of a Nomex honeycomb layer sandwiched between aluminum and carbon fibre skins.
The HDT cone employs a new hexagonal pattern to disrupt symmetries in the cone breakup, creating a cone that shifts the frequency up by 10% compared to the RST II cones found on the Silver Series 7G.
The new cone also incorporates Monitor Audio’s proprietary C-CAM technology which supports a stronger, more fatigue-resistant cone.
The result is that the new HDT, C-CAM cones are among the strongest, most piston-like cones Monitor Audio has engineered so far.
The HDT and C-CAM cones are used across the 6G model range, including a new 3-inch mid-frequency driver, a 6-inch bass-mid unit, and 6- and 8-inch bass drivers.
Tweeter Tech: In addition to the HDT, and C-CAM cones, for high frequencies, a revised version of Monitor Audio’s MPD III (Micro Pleated Diaphragm) transducer is used (this is similar to the tweeters used in the Hyphn and the Platinum Series speakers) This design delivers precise high-frequency sound with greater consistency, clarity, and accuracy.
Crossover Design: The Gold Series 6G’s crossovers have been optimized for in-room performance. This especially supports better performance for the new On-Wall 6G model, where usage is closer to Custom Install than traditional Hi-Fi.
Cabinet Design: All the Gold Series 6G’s cabinets are designed to form the most rigid structure possible allowing the drivers to perform to their optimum capabilities. A top trim detail on the 100 and 500 models allows the MPD III high-frequency transducer to be placed further up the cabinet.
This supports better cabinet edge diffraction on these larger models. This helps deliver consistent and precise imaging across the entire frequency range.

Initial Impressions
With key innovations from Monitor’s flagship lines making it into the Gold 6G series, it makes a strong case. However, it does enter a very competitive field in the under $7,000 (USD) loudspeaker segment with competition from the Bowers & Wilkins 700 S3 Series, the Focal Aria Evo X Series and the KEF R Meta Series, among others.
On the other hand, the Gold Series 6G offers significant cost savings over the flagship Platinum series, and may even narrow the performance gap. We’re definitely intrigued and hope to get a listen soon.

The 100 6G!
But what is with the 130w into 4ohm minimum power requirement?

With these prices, they better sound less pedestrian than they look.
