Who could have predicted this new release from MoFi Electronics? Raises hand. Not that we’re complaining about the more affordable MoFi SourcePoint 8 Loudspeakers by Andrew Jones.
When Andrew Jones left ELAC after recreating the brand and delivering some of the best affordable loudspeakers audiophiles have heard in many years, there was a lot of speculation about where the storied loudspeaker designer would land.
Was he finally retiring after a very long career which included many years at KEF, TAD, and Pioneer? Jones has always proven to be one of the more accessible designers in the Hi-Fi world and someone who enjoys a challenge. When the folks at MoFi Electronics came calling — Andrew Jones already had an inkling what he wanted to do. Enter the MoFi SourcePoint 10 loudspeakers.
Fast forward to this weekend and we have news of the new $2,750 USD SourcePoint 8 loudspeakers that will have a their debut at the upcoming AXPONA event in Schaumburg, IL, USA from April 14-16.
This bookshelf speaker, created by Chief Speaker Designer Andrew Jones, offers the same exceptional sound quality as its larger sibling, the SourcePoint 10, but in a more compact package that can fit into most rooms.
Jones, who is known for his signature concentric driver designs, explains that the SourcePoint 8 was developed to provide music lovers with a smaller alternative without sacrificing audio performance. “We always had the intention of releasing a smaller SourcePoint, but our first priority was demonstrating just how good a large diameter 2-way concentric speaker could sound when we were not so much size constrained,” he says.
One of the highlights of the SourcePoint 8 is its custom-made eight-inch concentric driver, which features MoFi’s innovative Twin-Drive high-flux magnet structure. The paper pulp mix cone shape with its brand-new corrugated surround is optimized for resonant behavior and tweeter waveguide requirements.
The 1.25-inch soft dome tweeter with large-diameter voice coil and wide surround extends both the low- and high-frequency response of the tweeter. Combined with the loading of the waveguide which increases its low-end efficiency allows the tweeter to work optimally down to the low 1.6kHz crossover frequency.
The SourcePoint 8’s cabinet measures 18 x 11.4 x 13.2 inches (HxWxD) and is made of 3/4-inch-thick MDF panels for the sides, top, bottom, and back. The 27.9-pound speaker boasts a sculpted, multi-faceted 1.5-inch thick baffle that reduces diffraction and an 87dB sensitivity, with a low-frequency point of 47Hz and a true eight-ohm impedance with a minimum of 6.4 ohms.
The interior is further strengthened by two braces, while the exterior comes in a real wood veneer of satin walnut, black ash, or a painted satin white.
Listeners can experience the SourcePoint 8 at AXPONA in Suite 334, where Jones and the MoFi Electronics team will be showcasing the speaker with electronics from HiFi Rose.
SourcePoint 8 will be available in black, white or walnut. Shipping is expected to start in May 2023 at a price of $2,750/pair USD or $2,999/pair USD with matching stands.

Can speaker manufacturers start taking pictures of speakers with other objects or people to help customers assess their relative size? When MoFi released the SourcePoint 10s, I was surprised that they were more “standmount-” than “bookshelf-” sized. From the pictures, the SourcePoint 8s and 10s could both be as small as LS50s. Don’t get me started with Harbeth photos that scale P3s the same as M40s on their website.

Ken is right! And now for some thing completely different!
Andrew Jones wanders a lot. From company to company and never once does he go off the path. Perchance is he a Harmonious Hobbit? A Meandering Munchkin? Or…The Rarest of RARE(!)…A Harmonious Harfoot?
Cool little speakerlettes. I have a pair of his stand mount Atmos jobbers he did for Pioneer/Elite. I like ’em
just fine.
Key Lime or Key Largo? Six of one and half a dozen of the other. Would a heming any other way be as earnest?

No doubt these pair of larger stand mount speakers carry strong Andrew Jones DNA, however the idea of 8″ and 10″ 2-ways speakers also harks back to classic larger 2 ways boxes reminiscent of ARs and KLHs of the late 60s but modernized in today’s context. Bravo!
