Marantz just introduced their new flagship 7-channel power amplifier, Model MM8077, which includes many of the key innovations and technologies normally found in Marantz’ ultimate-quality Reference Series audio components, such as a rock-solid copper plated chassis, high current toroidal power transformer, unique current feedback discrete power amplifier stage design and more, providing a rich, detailed and immersive music and movie surround sound experience.
The MM8077 is elegantly finished in anodized black satin, with the classic Marantz ringed porthole display and a blue illumination accent that includes a clearly visible display on/off function. Notably, the copper-plated chassis, with its multi-layer reinforced bottom panel assembly for maximum rigidity and triple-layer top cover, provides the best possible shielding from other components in a system, providing virtually total isolation from all extraneous noise.
At the heart of the MM8077 is Marantz’ massive high current power supply, which features a leading-edge toroidal power transformer along with high power (71WVDC) filter capacitors with a total 100,000μF capacitance to easily handle sharp short-term transient peaks. This innovation delivers substantial headroom for dynamic peaks, along with the ability to easily handle low impedance speaker loads. In yet another leading-edge design innovation, all output stages feature identical topology for uniform high quality sound across all channels.
To ensure the most efficient use of its massive power plant, the MM8077’s devices are mounted on the unit’s unique dual extruded aluminum alloy heat sink assembly, configured in a tunnel arrangement that provides both passive and active cooling. The massive heat sinks feature multiple ribbed fins that provide a large passive cooling area, and the assembly is book-ended with a whisper quiet fan that automatically kicks in to provide active cooling when the soundtrack heats up. Because the fan is mounted internally directly to the heat sinks, even while running, it is whisper quiet.
The MM8077 is designed to allow custom integrators and consumers total flexibility in home entertainment system building. Users have the option, for instance, to choose between both balanced (XLR) and unbalanced (RCA) inputs for each channel, providing maximum system configuration flexibility. Thanks to this innovation, each amp channel can be configured to a user’s choice of input connector. And for the ultimate home theater experience, users may pair the MM8077 with Marantz’ MM7705 5-channel power amplifier, delivering thrilling 11-channel surround sound with the latest multi-channel audio formats, such as DTS Neo:X. For total ease of control, the MM8077 features remote power on/off control compatibility with select Marantz A/V preamplifiers, including the new flagship AV8801.
The MM8077’s loudspeaker terminals feature audiophile-grade construction, and are gold-plated for maximum signal transfer, and they can easily handle a wide range of audiophile speaker cable connectors. The unit also features a DC trigger input for external power on/off control, and there’s also dual RC-5 remote control in/out jacks for connection to a compatible Marantz A/V preamplifier/processor.
