Whilst the first generation of wireless turntables were genuinely less than impressive, there are a growing number of decks available from Cambridge Audio, Audio-Technica, Pro-Ject, and Lenco that appear to be a rather significant step forward.
The Cambridge Audio Alva TT V2 would be our first choice for the simple reason that it is a rather good turntable regardless of how one decides to use it. The higher price is actually justified based on the build quality, revised tonearm, and overall sonic performance.
Lenco LBT-345WA
For almost $1,000 less, the new Lenco LBT-345WA looks like a decent option for those looking at their first turntable for the simple reason that it was clearly engineered with some input and components from Pro-Ject and Ortofon, and we rather like the ability to disable the internal MM phono section.
Very few of the Bluetooth loudspeakers that we have tried so far come with internal MM phono sections that are very good, and we would almost recommend taking some of the money you would save buying this table and adding an external phono stage from Cambridge Audio, Schiit Audio, or Andover Audio if vinyl playback is going to be a big part of your daily listening.
Using a better quality phono stage now will give you something to enjoy even more in the future should you decided to upgrade from the pre-installed Ortofon 2M Red which is not my favourite cartridge. Go with the 2M Blue or Goldring E4 when your budget allows for it.
The built-in switchable phono stage allows any active speaker to be used (such as the Audio Pro C20) and the Bluetooth connection means any Bluetooth speaker or headphones can be used for wireless convenience.
The LBT-345WA comes supplied with a Chrome-plated Record Stabilizer which can be placed on the center of the turntable platter. The stabiliser lightly presses on the record, ensuring even contact with the turntable, reducing any unwanted vibrations and delivering a more stable rotation to ensure accurate and balanced sound reproduction from your favourite records.
Available in a gloss walnut color, the stylish Lenco LBT-345WA turntable also features a USB output for vinyl-to-digital conversion, felt slip-mat, and a detachable dust cover.
Winston Eade, International Business Development Manager, Lenco says “This is a special turntable for us and one that speaks to our history of selling audio products since 1946. With an amazing value proposition and the inclusion of an Ortofon cartridge, this turntable stands as a testament to superior design and functionality. Seamlessly blending timeless hi-fi quality with modern features like Bluetooth and USB connectivity, that makes it so easy to use and enjoy music on speakers or headphones anywhere in your home”.
