PORTLAND, OR (September 2007) –LaCie announced today that it is now shipping the 2big Triple, a full-featured three-interface, two-disk RAID device (FireWire 800, FireWire 400 and Hi-Speed USB 2.0). The 2big Triple connects “everywhere” and is ideal for small and home office professionals needing performance and security, especially digital editing and graphic design. Offered in 1, 1.5 and 2 terabyte versions, the 2big Triple was created for LaCie by Neil Poulton and features an attractive new natural cooling heat sink metal design with a thermoregulated progressive smart fan to ensure long-lasting reliability and quiet operation. The 2big Triple can be rackmounted, placed horizontally, or stood vertically to conform to any office environment.
“Professional ergonomics, RAID flexibility, plug and play, and two hot-swappable drives are key components of the 2big family,” said Marie Renouard, LaCie Product Manager. “Add in triple interface with USB cross-platform compatibility, and FireWire 800 for speed demanding applications, and you have a device that was not only designed well, but is an ideal solution for creative professionals.”
For optimal security, save your digital files in SAFE (RAID 1) mode, which allows them to automatically be mirrored on to the second drive. If one drive fails, the data will remain available and will automatically be rebuilt on to a new spare drive** without the need to shutdown, making it ideal for important data archiving, 2D/3D imaging and RAW Photo Libraries.
If data redundancy is not needed, choose JBOD, BIG (concatenation) or FAST (RAID 0) for maximum speed, capacity, or a combination of both. A rotating switch changes the RAID mode without the need of complicated software configuration.
With an incredibly fast 800Mbps FireWire 800 interface, the 2big Triple built-in RAID hardware controller preserves the computer’s system resources. Allowing sustained high speeds, especially in FAST mode (RAID 0), the 2big Triple is suited for performance demanding projects, such as audio/video playback.
The 2big Triple is driver free making it fully compatible with Mac OS X 10.4 or later, Windows Server 2003, Windows 2000, XP and Vista. Pre-formatted for Mac OS, plug-and-play is guaranteed right out of the box for Mac users and allows for the convenience of getting right to work without the worries of configuration. With just a few clicks, PC users can easily reformat it for Windows. The 2big Triple ships with EMC Retrospect Express for advanced backup management and data restoration for Windows and Mac. Backup can be initiated with one-click access via the large glowing blue shortcut button. The button can also be programmed to launch any application, music or photo slideshow instantly with one easy push.
