Upgraded JBL Synthesis Electronics Deliver State-of-the-Art Performance
A key component of the Synthesis One Array system is the 7.2-channel JBL Synthesis SDP-40HD surround processor/preamplifier, making its debut at CEDIA 2006. The SDP-40HD is a state-of-the-art component that delivers unsurpassed digital-audio and high-definition-video performance. It offers numerous advanced features, including six HDMI inputs, twelve configurable audio inputs, and two
24-bit/192kHz digital-to-analog converters operating in dual-mono mode for each audio output, to provide the highest possible fidelity and resolution. The SDP-40HD is compatible with all popular surround sound decoding formats, and incorporates proprietary Logic 7 surround sound processing from Harman International, which provides enhanced surround sound realism from both matrix-encoded and two-channel stereo recordings.
The JBL Synthesis SDEC4000 digital equalizer, which is also being introduced at CEDIA 2006, optimizes the performance of a Synthesis multichannel system in any room by the application of ultraprecise multiband digital parametric equalization and leading-edge DSP technologies. In all rooms, there are powerful room resonances that overly emphasize some frequencies and attenuate others. The SDEC4000 compensates for these irregularities to achieve extremely accurate in-room response and the highest possible sound quality. The SDEC4000 has the capability of equalizing up to 16 main and surround channels and four subwoofers.
The SDEC4000 offers a wealth of additional advanced features, including automatic arrival-time calibration for all the loudspeakers in a multichannel system; an Auto-Film-Screen-Compensation feature that automatically corrects for the attenuation in high-frequency output that can occur when a loudspeaker is located behind a projection screen; and sophisticated overload protection.
SAM 1 and SAM 2 Loudspeakers: Designed for Unsurpassed Sonic Accuracy
JBL’s SAM 1 and SAM 2 loudspeakers are engineered to deliver extraordinary sonic performance and bring the configurable installation versatility of the company’s acclaimed VerTec line-array professional audio loudspeakers to home listeners.
The SAM 1 midrange/high-frequency loudspeaker shares many of the driver technologies found in JBL’s ultrahigh-end K2 Series and Project Array loudspeakers. These include the company’s proprietary BiRadial horns mated with advanced-technology aluminum midrange and pure-titanium ultrahigh-frequency compression drivers, which provide remarkable midrange clarity and resolution, wide dynamic range, and extended high-frequency response to beyond 40kHz.
The SAM 2 employs dual 8-inch woofers that utilize exclusive JBL Metal Matrix technology, in which the aluminum woofer cones are deep-anodized to produce rigid yet lightweight driver diaphragms, providing superlative articulation. SAM 2 woofers incorporate a host of additional refinements, and the crossover between the SAM 1 and SAM 2 modules is active, enabling the tonal balance of the arrays to be optimized in any listening environment.
The SAM 1 and SAM 2’s modular design provides never-before-available installation options. They can be easily attached together using their built-in fastening system, creating loudspeaker arrays in a variety of configurations. In the Synthesis One Array, one SAM 1 is linked to two SAM 2s for the left and right front channels, and two SAM 2 enclosures are attached on either side of a SAM 1 module for the center channel array.
These innovative loudspeakers are complemented by six S4Ai multipolar in-wall surround loudspeakers and the S1S-EX 18-inch subwoofer, creating a multichannel loudspeaker system that delivers remarkable sound quality, with extraordinary low-frequency impact and dynamic range, precise localization of dialogue, instruments and effects in an expansive 360-degree soundfield, and unsurpassed clarity, even when reproducing movie soundtracks and music at “real life” volume levels.
S800 and S7150 Multichannel Amplifiers: Powerful, Versatile Multichannel Amplification
The S800 stereo power amplifiers and seven-channel S7150 power amplifiers used in the Synthesis One Array combine superlative sound quality with versatile installation options, and are designed to interface with other Synthesis system components for sophisticated automatic control capabilities.
The S800 delivers 200 watts into each channel (into 8 ohms, <0.03% THD), or a massive 800 watts in bridged mode, and the S7150 provides 160 watts into each channel. Both amplifiers can easily re-create sound levels equal to those of the original performances in even the largest of home-listening environments. The amplifiers interface with the other components in a Synthesis system for sophisticated automatic control capabilities.
The JBL Synthesis One Array complete home theater audio system is currently available at a suggested retail price of $75,000.
