JBL Expands Its JBL Performance Series Lineup at CEDIA 2006 To Accommodate A Wider Range Of Custom-Installation Applications

14 September 2006

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WOODBURY, NY — JBL today announced that it has significantly expanded its JBL Performance Series lineup of home theater system solutions to include a much wider variety of loudspeakers, subwoofers and system packages, and to accommodate a broader range of custom-installation requirements.

The JBL Performance Series, which is showcased at JBL’s CEDIA Expo 2006 exhibit at the Colorado Convention Center, Booth 644 (September 14 — 17, 2006), encompasses an extensive selection of turnkey, high-end, custom-installation home theater audio systems that include electronics and loudspeakers. The Series offers a choice of multichannel home theater audio solutions, all designed to provide unsurpassed sonic realism, control flexibility and ease of use while integrating seamlessly into the home environment.

All JBL Performance Series systems are based around the AV1 Surround Processor/System Controller and AVA7 7-Channel Power Amplifier, both engineered to deliver state-of-the-art sound and offer versatile connection options with source components and high-definition-display devices.

A variety of loudspeakers, including in-wall speakers and subwoofers, on-wall and stand-mount models, outdoor speakers, powered subwoofers, and additional models, is available. All the speakers are constructed using premium-quality JBL drivers and components to deliver exceptional clarity, detail, dynamic impact and tonal accuracy over a wide listening area.

AV1 Surround Processor/System Controller

The JBL Performance Series AV1 is a high-performance, software-upgradeable 7.1-channel surround processor/system controller that is designed for total ease of operation; it utilizes advanced digital technologies to achieve the highest possible resolution and fidelity. The AV1 is compatible with popular surround sound decoding formats and incorporates exclusive 7.1 Logic 7 processing for enhanced surround sound realism. The AV1 offers versatile connection options, including high-bandwidth, HDTV-compatible component-video switching, multiple digital and analog audio and video inputs and outputs, and multiple RS-232 ports for facilitating integrated system operation.

AVA7 7-Channel Power Amplifier

The AVA7 7-channel power amplifier delivers 125 watts into each channel (into 8 ohms, <0.03% THD), to easily re-create, in even large listening environments, sound levels equal to those of the original performances. The AVA7 is designed for superb sound quality in every respect, with special attention
paid to minimizing the number of components in the audio-signal path to achieve extremely low distortion and wide dynamic range, an element critical to realistic home cinema sound. The amplifier includes control connections that interface with the AV1, enabling sophisticated automatic control capabilities, and its ventilation design routes air from the rear and through the sides, rather than through the top of the amplifier, enabling it to be stacked directly on top of or underneath other components in an equipment rack to save installation space.

The JBL Performance Series now includes an extremely wide range of loudspeakers to accommodate virtually every custom-installation home entertainment requirement. Following is an overview of selected models within the JBL Performance Series loudspeaker lineup.

The on-wall models in the JBL Performance Series include the Performance PT800 tower loudspeaker, Performance PS1400 subwoofer, and Performance PC600 center channel. The speakers’ modular design allows the PT800 tower to be stacked atop the PS1400 subwoofer, mounted separately on a wall, or installed on optional available stands, providing maximum installation flexibility in a wide variety of home theater configurations and room sizes. All the speakers utilize a unique shallow-profile enclosure that allows them to occupy a minimum of floor space and be mounted close to a wall, and all models are constructed using professional-quality JBL drivers and components.

The Custom Series P81 and P941 in-wall speakers are ultimate-performance designs that utilize pure-titanium tweeters, and woofers and midrange drivers made from an advanced-technology aluminum/ ceramic multilayer diaphragm material. This material is far more rigid and lightweight than other types of cone materials, enabling it to deliver extraordinary resolution and sonic accuracy. The P81 and P941 also include front-panel listener-axis, high-frequency-contour, high-frequency-level and low-frequency boundary-compensation controls, which allow precise sonic tailoring in any installation.

The Specialist Series offers exceptional in-wall and in-ceiling loudspeaker performance, incorporating pure-titanium-dome tweeters and aluminum-cone woofers to deliver superlative clarity and a smooth tonal balance. The tweeters are housed in a swivel-mounting system that is designed for maximum imaging and clarity, and enables them to be aimed for optimum sound distribution in any installation. Six models, including the SSLCR dual-woofer speaker, are available; the SSLCR can be mounted horizontally or vertically, facilitating its use as the center channel, or as the main and surround channels of a home theater system.

The Integrator Series includes a total of six in-wall and in-ceiling models that offer outstanding value and sound quality, thanks to their use of titanium-laminate swivel-mounted dome tweeters and titanium-laminate cone woofers. All Integrator Series and Specialist Series models are paintable and designed for ease of installation in both new homes and existing rooms.

In addition to the PS1400, available subwoofers include the HTPS400 (12-inch woofer, built-in 1000-watt amplifier), which features a compact enclosure that enables it to be readily placed in a variety of room locations; the PS10SW (10-inch woofer, 150 watts); the PS12SW (12-inch woofer, 250 watts); and the SS88IWS, which can be mounted between standard 16-inch wall studs.

Later in 2006, JBL will also introduce its BassQ Automatic Room Mode Correction (RMC) Processor, which can be added to any Performance Series system. The BassQ RMC processor is an innovative low-frequency-response-correction component that is used to achieve accurate in-room bass response. It connects to the AV1 and utilizes supplied measurement microphones and advanced DSP equalization to compensate for the peaks and dips in frequency response that are inherent in every room; the result is smooth, flat bass response with exceptionally realistic reproduction of movie soundtracks and music.

Pricing for JBL Performance Series systems ranges from approximately $10,000 to $30,000.
