Subwoofers come with a variety of driver sizes, most commonly 8, 10, 12, and 15 inches, but there are some subwoofers with even larger drivers. We have previously reported on massive subwoofers such as the 21-inch RBH Sound 21-SF/R, 15-inch REL Reference No. 32, and the 12-inch Wilson Audio Submerge, but Grimani Systems custom install 21-inch subwoofer caught our attention.

Grimani Systems has added the IS-21 Infrasonic Subwoofer to its custom integration line. With a 21-inch driver and additional support from its 2400-watt amplifier, the IS-21 is designed to provide exceptional deep and immersive bass.

The IS-21 incorporates precision engineering, advanced materials, and state-of-the-art DSP technology — which is what one should be expect for its rather hefty asking price of $15,000 USD.

Power Amplifier for Grimani IS-21 Infrasonic Subwoofer

From Anthony Grimani, co-founder of Grimani Systems: “The IS-21 goes down a full octave below most subwoofers and brings visceral excitement to music, movies, and games. This innovative product truly adds to the immersive audio experience.

Initial Impression

Because every room is different, one has to take more than just driver size into consideration when selecting a subwoofer for a home theater system. Do you go with a ported or sealed design? Does the product offer advanced DSP that can help you position it properly and maximise its performance even if your room has some acoustic issues?

A good subwoofer not only needs to be able to deliver those room-shaking moments but also needs to deliver the texture and subtleness for times when it is also needed, such as with acoustic music.

On the other hand, large rooms have their own needs as the subwoofer needs to fill the room with deep bass. Sometimes more than one sub is required, and sometimes you need a subwoofer with a very large driver to deliver the goods.

With a 21-inch driver and supporting 2400-watt DSP controllable amp, the IS-21 Infrasonic Subwoofer should deliver bass you can feel to your core. We think it could make a lot of home theater listeners quite happy, but probably not your neighbors.
