Sophisticated Florence-Made Solid-State Stereo Models Feature Advanced Mirror-Amp Design, Audiophile Performance, Steel Chassis, More
Koetsu USA, the U.S. distribution arm of the world-renowned Japanese cartridge manufacturer, introduces into the U.S. market the S-1 Dual Mono and S-1 Signature Amplifiers by Goldenote, two solid-state stereo models featuring unusually sophisticated designs.
Unlike the many amplifiers made in China, the S-1 Dual-Mono and S-1 Signature are superbly and entirely handcrafted in Goldenote’s own facility in Florence, Italy, where the company is based. Both amplifiers feature a using a proprietary Mirror-Amp electronic design, enabling the preamplifier sections to work as superior class A amplifiers, a power supply handled by two different custom made transformers, and a quartet of thermal switches to turn off power to prevent overheating.
The S-1 Dual-Mono boasts a power output of 40 watts for each of its two channels, and a frequency response of 20Hz-20KHz, +/- 3dB. Its signal/noise ratio is -90db, and its total harmonic distortion (THD) is 0.2 percent.
The S-1 Signature is a special edition of the S-1 enhanced by extra power, higher-grade components, and matched HQ transistors to further refine its performance. It boasts a power output of 60 watts for each of its two channels, and a frequency response of 20Hz-20KHz, +/- 3dB. Like the S-1, its signal/noise ratio is -90db, and its total harmonic distortion (THD) is 0.2 percent.
The Mirror-Amp design featured in both models is a gain stage made with a proprietary cascade differential amplifier with a mirror current. This produces a super-linear signal, virtually eliminating distortion. The mirror current helps regulate the amount of the current and avoid overheating.
In each amplifier, two custom transformers, dedicated to the audio signal, handle the power supply, while an insulated power section shields the supply from all the functions that might adversely affect its sound quality. These include the motorized volume control, the checking relays, the Power On LED, and a microprocessor used for some electro-mechanical functions.
Four thermal switches automatically turn off the S-1 and S-1 Signature’s power when either amp reaches an internal temperature of 180 degrees Fahrenheit (80 degrees Celsius). This enables the amplifier to achieve the very best sonic performance, while preventing dangerous operating conditions. The chassis of both amplifiers are fabricated of steel to minimize RFI and EMI interference, and include five input/out pairs, one fixed output and an optional phono connection.
The S-1 Dual-Mono and S-1 Signature Amplifiers are available now from authorized dealers for suggested prices of $1,436 and $1,866, respectively.
About Goldenote
Founded in 1992 and based in Italy, Goldenote manufactures some of the finest audio and video products available, including turntables, tone arms, CD players, amplifiers and speakers. It launched Audio Vox brand products in 1997, and the more ambitious Villa line in 2002. Goldenote innovations include the acclaimed Zero- Clock, a special digital output filter; Electro-Power, an innovative system to electronically control speed fluctuations in digital mechanics; and the recent Dual-Speed design that enable a CD Player to automatically adjust its speed and reduces the voltage coming to the motor.
