The intensive, 3-day THX Certified Video Systems Workshop conducted by Lion A/V is an ongoing educational opportunity held approximately six to eight times a year at major cities throughout the U.S. Aimed at installers, engineers and sales professionals wanting to increase their hands-on knowledge of video calibration in home theaters, it includes practical, interactive exercises using state-of-the-art equipment.
Delivering leading A/V systems for optimization is a massive undertaking; one that demands an unprecedented level of organization and system performance. Gefen’s 4×4 HDMI Matrix was selected as a key component to integrate various hi-def displays and sources, giving immediate access to a source from each display.
Gregg Loewen, president of Lion A/V and THX Lead Video Systems Instructor, explains, “We have 14 to 16 displays set up for the training, three of which are 1080p 2:35 anamorphic, front projector systems. The Gefen 4×4 HDMI Matrix allows us to show how audio and video interact in a system using multiple devices, so we can focus on video optimization using multiple source components.”
Classroom instruction covers a broad range of topics with specialized labs on calibration, contrast ratios, enhancement controls, color, tint/color decoding, software/hardware choices, gray scale and day/night modes.
“With this kind of in-depth coverage, we needed reliable equipment in the system so we could focus on the training,” said Loewen. “We selected Gefen’s Matrix and HDMI cables because they are easy to set up and integrate into our existing system. We needed reliability.”
Loewen was selected to lead the course based on industry recognition and an impressive record of performance. Upon completion, students are able to calibrate displays to “THX Video Calibrated” standards. Students receive access to the THX Video Calibrators forum, a THX Calibration Kit with certificate of completion, and a THX Demo Disk II. Upcoming workshops will be held in Orlando, immediately following EHX (March 15-17).
