Dual Electronics Brings DivX Compatibility to the Mobile Environment

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

HEATHROW, FL, August 3, 2005 — Dual Electronics today announced it will soon ship the company’s first mobile overhead DVD/CD/MP3 player, complete with a 10.2″ TFT LCD monitor and full Divx compatibility, as well as two pairs of IR headphones for private listening.

Dual’s XDVD1002CM (SRP: $1,199) brings the benefits of DivX technology to the mobile environment, allowing users to enjoy legally downloaded video recordings on an advanced playback system, with a screen that is big enough to afford everyone a clear view of the action.

“DivX is fast becoming the format of choice for movie fans who are ready to buy or rent movies online instead of having to acquire commercially produced discs at retail or through the mail,” said Rob Sutton, Product Manager, Dual Electronics, a brand name of Namsung America, Inc. “The ability to legally purchase, download, and burn movies to CD-R or CD-RW discs for pennies will be a boon to consumers who are anxious to buy video entertainment the way they do MP3’s and other digital audio formats, while mobile retailers are going to see a dramatic increase in demand for units that can play this important new format.

“By offering the XDVD1002CM, we’re staking a claim in the DivX arena with a mobile player that offers razor-sharp video along with a host of popular features.”

The XDVD1002CM exemplifies Dual’s commitment to developing high performance, high value products in that if offers the most in-demand features found in both mobile audio receivers and portable DVD players. Designed to be installed as an overhead unit, the XDVD1002CM is thin and compact, yet it opens to reveal a wide 10.2″ TFT LCD screen for a consistently sharp, non-reflective image.

As a media player, the XDVD1002CM is as flexible as it is sleek and compact, with the ability to play DVD-V, DVD-R/-RW, DVD+R/+RW, and CD-R/-RW discs, encoded with MP3 and DivX files. There are two A/V inputs and one A/V output, as well as a remote control and two pairs of wireless headphones for private listening.

The video section represents the best of current portable/mobile technologies. The 10.2″ TFT active matrix LCD screen displays 4:3 and 16:9 widescreen images with 800 x 480 (RGB) resolution for impeccable clarity, and the graphical user interface with OSD (on-screen display) takes the guesswork out of adjusting color, brightness, contrast, sharpness, and other elements of the image. Included are one A/V output and two A/V inputs for the addition of a second, outboard monitor or add-on video source unit (e.g., portable video game), respectively.

Stylistically, the XDVD1002CM is designed to be seen only when used, with a sleek, low profile mounting bracket (included) that is affixed to the roof of most current vehicles. An IR remote control completes the package.

Dual Electronics’ XDVD1002CM measures 10″ x 10″ x 1.6″ (H/W/D) and is scheduled to ship later this month.
