CEAs DTV Interface Committee Supports Digital Television Connectivity for Consumers

The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)’s Digital Television (DTV) Interface Subcommittee published CEA-761-B, DTV Remodulator Specification with Enhanced OSD Capability, and CEA-CEB5-B, Recommended Practice for DTV Receiver “Monitor” Mode Capability. Together these standards will enable consumers to easily set-up and control a digital television accessory, like a set-top box or digital video recorder (DVR), using their TV screen.

“CEA continues to lead the migration to digital television,” said CEA’s Vice President of Technology and Standards Brian Markwalter. “As we approach the analog television transmission shutoff date, and as more Americans install digital TV sets in their homes, the ability to easily hook up accessory devices like DVRs to DTV sets is critical. This improved CEA standard will make life easier for those consumers who chose to do this with a radio frequency (RF) connection.”

“Our industry’s goal is to simplify the set-up and use of our products by consumers and the revisions we’ve made to these two documents will enable deployment of CE products that make it easier for consumers to control accessory devices using DTV on-screen menus,” said Paul Thomsen, director, design / technology & standards, Hitachi America Ltd., Home Electronics Division and chair of CEA’s DTV Interface Subcommittee.

Participation in CEA standards activities is open to all companies and organizations with direct and material interest. CEA membership is not required to participate.
