MINNEAPOLIS (2/27/06) — Canton has introduced its CD 200 series of loudspeakers, delivering outstanding sound performance in slimline cabinets that are ideal for use with flat-panel video displays. The line includes three models available separately or as part of a pair of packaged 5.1-channel systems that include matched subwoofers.
Top of the new line is the floorstanding CD-200, followed by the horizontal or vertically mountable CD 250, and the CD 220 mini-speaker. Each features a graceful brushed aluminum housing and a low-depth cylindrical shape that is not only extremely attractive, but also serves to minimize standing wave formation within the enclosure. Each model features Canton’s lauded ADT-25 aluminum-manganese tweeter, and a highly refined 4-inch aluminum woofer similar to those used in the larger CD-300 series.
The Canton CD 200 floorstanding models each have four of the line’s aluminum woofers and a sophisticated 2-1/2-way crossover network. Thanks to this crossover design, all four of the woofers are used to reproduce low-frequency bass signals, while only the upper pair are used for upper-bass and midrange reproduction. This arrangement provides the equivalent surface area of a single 8-inch woofer in the deep bass range, but maintains point-source characteristics in the critical mid-range. At just 5.5-inches wide, 4-inches deep, and 43-inches tall, the CD 200 is capable of delivering extremely faithful reproduction while occupying very little floor space, adding to the decor rather than dominating it. The CD 200 carries a suggested retail price of $750 each.
The CD 250 shares many of the same features with the larger CD-200, including crossover design and driver construction, but features just two woofers and a cabinet that is 17-inches long. Its symmetrical shape lends itself extremely well to use in either a horizontal or vertical arrangement, thanks to the 2-1/2-way crossover network. It includes both wall-mount brackets and a table-top stand, and is ideal for use as a stereo pair or L/R speaker, or as a horizontal center-channel in a home theater system. The CD 250 is available at a suggested retail price of $500 each.
The CD 220 is a compact two-way design that uses a single 4-inch woofer and 1-inch tweeter in a cabinet that is just 9-inches tall. It is perfectly tonally matched to both the CD-200 and CD-250 for use in multichannel systems, and serves as an excellent min-satellite. It can be mounted on the wall using the included hardware, or placed in the room atop the optional LS 105 loudspeaker stands. The CD 220 has a suggested retail price of $250 each.
There are also two packaged 5.1-channel home theater systems that use the CD 200 series speakers, the Movie CD 201 and the Movie CD205. The Movie CD 201 includes four CD 220 satellites, and a single CD 250 speaker for use as the center channel; the 150 Watt AS 80 SC active subwoofer completes the package. The Movie CD 205 employs five CD 250 speakers for all fullrange channels, and features the ICEPower digital amplifier-powered AS 100SC subwoofer for commanding deep bass reproduction. The Canton Movie CD 201 and Movie CD 205 home theater speaker packages have suggested retail prices of $1,999 and $3,099 each, respectively.
The Canton CD 200 series loudspeakers and Movie systems are all currently available at Canton dealers.
