Bowers & Wilkins has introduced new sixth generation 600 Series loudspeakers for 2018. The value-priced, entry-level home audio lineup includes one floorstanding speaker, two bookshelf speakers, one center channel and three subwoofers. All feature a new cutting-edge Continuum cone, which the company says creates layered midrange sound with a pristine soundscape naturally tuned for human hearing.
Developed over an eight-year period, the Continuum cone was first featured on Bower & Wilkin’s flagship 800 Series Diamond models, including the 800 D3, now in use in Abbey Road Studios. The new 600 Series also features a patented and ultra-low-distortion Decoupled Double Dome tweeter that claims to reveal astonishing levels of detail in music. Improved paper bass cones combine effortless power and low-end with the precision and low-distortion accuracy.
All models boast cleaner sound and a cleaner look with a modern and premium aesthetic. Grille pegs have been replaced with magnets, and the port moved to the rear cabinet. Each speaker can be used as stereo pairs or in combination to complete a 5.1 home theater speaker system.
603
The flagship 603 floorstanding speaker from the 600 Series claims outstanding power, accuracy and musicality with the Decoupled Double Dome tweeter, an FST midrange driver using the 6-inch Continuum cone, plus 6-1/2″ dual paper-cone bass drivers. $1800/pr.
606
The 606 standmount loudspeaker is designed for stand or bookshelf use. This compact speaker claims stunning clarity and tonal purity plus outstanding bass extension combining the Decoupled Double Dome tweeter technology with a 6.5-inch Continuum cone mid/bass driver. $800/pr.
607
The 607 bookshelf loudspeaker is the smallest loudspeaker in the 600 series range, yet still claims outstanding bass response and insight from its main 5-inch Continuum cone mid/bass driver. $600/pr.
HTM6
The HTM6 center channel merges Bowers & Wilkin’s HTM62 S2 and HTM61 S2 center channel options into one powerful, punch-packing speaker. Now a compact and living room-friendly package, the center channel speaker offers 603-matching levels of performance from a smaller, more preferred size for your home. It features the Decoupled Double Dome tweeter plus dual 5-inch Continuum cone mid/bass drivers. $599/each.
The 600 Series includes three subwoofers priced from $500 to $700. They include the compact ASW608 (8-inch, 200-watt), ASW610 (10-inch, 200-watt) and the most powerful ASW610XP (10-inch, 500-watt). Each boasts an audiophile-standard, highly efficient Class D amplifier to capture every spine-tingling, water-shaking rumble. Each subwoofer is also finished to match the rest of the 600 series in matte black or white.
