Boston Acoustics Wins 4 Audio Awards for On-Wall, In-Wall & In-Ceiling Speakers at Electronic House Expo

Distributed Audio Awards Given to Unique P400 Home Theater Speaker, Versatile DSi460T2 In-Wall, New VRiSub85 In-Ceiling Sub, and DSi495 In-Ceiling Speaker.

EHX FALL, LONG BEACH, CA, Nov. 22, 2004 — Boston Acoustics, Inc. (NASDAQ: BOSA), a premier manufacturer of high-performance audio solutions for use in home music and audio-video systems, after-market and OEM automotive systems, and custom built-in audio systems, has won a quartet of important audio awards for an ingenious new on-wall speaker designed for flat-panel displays, versatile in-wall and in-ceiling speakers, and a flexible new in-ceiling subwoofer at the Electronic House Expo (EHX), which just concluded.

Boston Acoustics received EHX’s Distributed Audio Awards for the innovative P400 High Performance Home Theater Speaker, the DSi460T2 In-Wall Loudspeaker, the unobtrusive VRiSub85 In-Ceiling Subwoofer, and the DSi495 In-Ceiling Loudspeaker.

The speakers earned the awards in four separate categories, demonstrating the breadth of Boston Acoustics’ strength in home audio product development, and the broad appeal of The Boston Sound, the company’s acclaimed audio signature, which the award-winning speakers all share.

EHX’s Distributed Audio Awards honor products displaying exceptional innovation, functionality and value. Winners were selected by a distinguished panel of industry experts, who conducted live listening tests, from among more than 60 advanced products submitted by numerous leading manufacturers. The awards were presented to Boston Acoustics in a special ceremony at EHX on Nov. 16, first night of the show.

The new P400 High Performance Home Theater Speaker, won the award for Best On-Wall Speaker costing $1,000 or more per pair. The P400’s breakthrough configuration combines a multichannel audio system’s left, center and right speakers into a single chassis to provide space-challenged homeowners with a Home Theater product that integrates performance, style and ergonomics in a single component. In accomplishing this, the P400 incorporates three 4 1/2-inch woofers, three passive radiators, and three of Boston Acoustics’ VR aluminum-dome tweeters. The speaker can be used with a variety of video displays, including plasma and LCD video displays. Suggested price for the P400 is $1,500 each.

The DSi460T2 In-Wall Loudspeaker won for Best In-Wall Speaker costing $1,000 or less per pair. The DSi460T2 is a multipurpose loudspeaker that solves a variety of whole-house audio and Home Theater problems, including delivering stereo audio from a single loudspeaker that also provides both the left and right channels of surround effects in a Home Theater system. The DSi460T2 has the ability to switch its dispersion pattern from direct radiation to a diffuse sound field that can fill a room with music and movie soundtracks. Suggested price for the DSi460T2 is $400 each.

The new VRiSub85 In-Ceiling Subwoofer won the award for the Best In-Wall/In-Ceiling Subwoofer costing $1,000 or less. The VRiSub85 is designed to fill in the important low frequencies that are sometimes too difficult for small architectural speakers to handle. The subwoofer can be configured a number of different ways to meet the needs of individual installations, and can be powered by Boston Acoustics’ SA1 Subwoofer Amplifier to complete an all-inclusive Boston Acoustics speaker system. Suggested price for the VRiSub85 is $500 each.

The DSi495 In-Ceiling Loudspeaker won the award for Best In-Ceiling Speaker costing $1,000 or more per pair. The DSi495 is a three-way speaker specifically designed to serve as a left, center or right loudspeaker within a Home Theater system, and features a baffle that can rotate to produce the best possible audio for each Home Theater user. This type of arrangement allows the homeowner to have a fully functional Home Theater without the limitation of needing to place speakers in a room lacking suitable floor space. Suggested price for the DSi495 is $500 each

All four award winners deliver The Boston Sound — pure, natural, and true to the original. The Boston Sound is renowned for its smooth octave-to-octave tonal balance, from the deepest bass to the highest treble. All Boston Acoustics systems present highs, mids and lows in perfect balance. It is the same consistent voice you hear no matter which Boston speakers you are listening to.
