Preview: Beyerdynamic’s MMX 300 PRO Next-Gen Gaming Headphones

At $299, beyerdynamic’s over-ear wired gaming headset features the same STELLAR.45 driver found in the company’s professional headphones for improved sound.

Beyerdynamic MMX 300 Pro Gaming Headset

Beyerdynamic continues to celebrate its centennial anniversary in 2024 with the introduction of new products, including the VERIO 200 wireless earbuds and MMX 300 PRO gaming headphones.

Gaming has become one of the most important and lucrative categories in consumer A/V and one that offers an opportunity for high-end brands to create a new audience for its products. Audeze made the strategic decision to create a lineup of gaming headsets and it became so successful that Sony acquired the luxury headphone manufacturer to solidify its position within the category and also benefit from its state-of-the-art technology.

Consumers spend tens of billions of dollars each year on gaming and its appeal is widespread across the globe; including male and female players, and consumers from 18 to 65 years of age.

Not everyone has the capabilities to create a world class gaming headset, amplifiers, or accessories, but brands such as Sony, Audeze, Schiit Audio, and Beyerdynamic have created some excellent products that are selling well in the market.

The new MMX 300 Pro are competitively priced at $299 USD and might be a great option for many.

What the MMX 300 PRO Offers

Beyerdynamic MMX 300 Pro Gaming Features

Built on the foundation of the previous MMX 300 2nd Generation headphones, the new MMX 300 PRO incorporates an over-ear wired design with the same STELLAR.45 driver found in beyerdynamic’s studio headphones.

With a closed-back design, comfort-specific ergonomics, and professional sound, the MMX 300 PRO is designed to be the perfect gaming headset for long, focused gaming sessions.

The MMX 300 series has always been Beyerdynamic’s high-end headset series. The studio-grade, 45mm high-performance STELLAR.45 driver is a contributing factor that the MMX 300 has the PRO title.

The MMX 300 PRO is designed to deliver powerful bass, clear mids, and a detailed top end; making it easier for players to locate rivals within the game, but also enhance the spaciousness of the presentation.

A modernized, edgier design with bold prints gives the MMX 300 PRO an elevated aesthetic that stands out in-game streams.

The 10mm electret condenser mic adds yet another level of gameplay, designed to deliver optimal speech intelligibility, wider frequency range, and less noise. This enables players and teammates to hear you as clearly as you hear them and the game.

Beyerdynamic MMX 300 Pro Gaming Headset Sides

The MMX 300 PRO continues the beyerdynamic legacy of being handmade in Heilbronn, Germany. Attention to detail has given beyerdynamic the ability to prioritize comfort as well as audio quality.

Equipped with velour earpads and a padded headband with a fontanelle recess, the MMX 300 PRO are designed to deliver a higher level of comfort. The solid build of MMX 300 PRO is designed to last. It can be worn for long periods of time without introducing gamer fatigue.

Beyerdynamic has also focused on durability and serviceability with the MMX 300 PRO. For easy servicing if needed, as well as adaptation to different consoles and interfaces, the cable with remote and console adapter fits any use case and can be replaced.

The cable, earpads, and headband are available as spare parts and can be replaced by the customer themselves.

The MMX 300 PRO enhances gameplay on PlayStation, XBox, Nintendo Switch, PC, iOS, and Android devices.

Tech Note: For those who prefer a wireless gaming headphone solution, beyerdynamic also offers the MMX 200, which is included in the comparison chart below.

Initial Impressions

The first few generations of gaming headsets were designed specifically for a superior in-game experience with improved clarity, stronger bass response, and a sense of immersion. How they sounded when listening to music or watching movies was not the goal.

Audeze and Beyerdynamic changed all of that by introducing a range of gaming headsets that featured trickle down driver technology from some of their best pro audio and high-end audio headphones.

The ability to use a pair of headphones like the MMX 300 PRO for music listening and even work-related conference calls only adds to their value for consumers might desire something more than just a “gaming” headset for $299.99 USD.

If the MMX 300 PRO can deliver a superior level of performance, compared to the previous iteration — these need to be on a shortlist along with the aforementioned, Audeze Maxwell which also retail for $299.99 USD.
