NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) 2025 runs this week from Tuesday, January 21st through Saturday, January 25th at the Anaheim Convention Center in Southern California and whilst not a traditional show for audiophiles, our experience at NAMM 2024 convinced us that it’s a show worth covering because more Hi-Fi brands are using the event to showcase new products — including headphones and loudspeakers.
Just what is NAMM 2025? The annual event is a trade show for music industry professionals looking for the latest in instruments, recording equipment, and almost anything used in the recording and post-production process.
It’s also a great place to spot some of your favorite performers; you never know who might be stopping by the various exhibits to try out new gear. In addition, several concert performances take place during the show.
beyerdynamic at NAMM
One company exhibiting at NAMM 2025 is beyerdynamic. The company is debuting its new line of in-ear monitors (aka IEMs) — four different models catered to various performance needs—accompanied by the new DT 1770 PRO MKII and DT 1990 PRO MKII studio headphones.
Also, as is customary with NAMM, beyerdynamic is hosting live performances from renowned jazz organist, pianist, gospel musician, and producer, Cory Henry, and The Voice Season 23 winner, Gina Miles.
From Andreas Rapp CEO of beyerdynamic: “At NAMM 2025, we’re excited to showcase a range of new products and initiatives that continue to build on our commitment to excellence in-studio sound,…From our new in-ear monitor series to hosting live performances and collaborations with renowned artists, we’re proud to demonstrate our latest achievements at the show.”
New DT Series IEMs
Beyerdynamic is showcasing four new IEMs at NAMM. The DT 70 IE, DT 71 IE, DT 72 IE, and DT 73 IE feature beyerdynamic’s TESLA.11 dynamic driver system, offering superior resolution and clarity with minimal distortion (THD of 0.02%).
Developed in Germany, its high impulse fidelity ensures accurate, detailed sound reproduction, and with a maximum SPL of 137dB, it’s one of the loudest, lowest-distortion IEM drivers available.
The DT models include five different sizes of silicone ear tips and three pairs of Comply memory foam ear tips, providing superior comfort, sound insulation, and fit for use in the studio and on stage.
All of the IEMs in the line look identical on the outside and have the same price tag (more on that later) but each model is designed to offer something a little different depending on the requirements of the user.
DT 70 IE
Designed for mixing and critical listening, DT 70 IE provides a balanced sound signature ideal for studio professionals and audiophiles.
The DT 70 IE delivers precise, linear tuning that follows the Fletcher-Munson curve. It supports accurate low frequencies and treble reproduction at any volume. Acoustic tuning provides support for evaluating mixes and live sound, while its natural sound balance also appeals to audiophiles seeking top-tier audio performance.
The provided cable minimizes structure-borne noise, and the gold-plated MMCX connector ensures a stable, long-lasting connection. With passive sound insulation of -39dB, the DT 70 IE is durable for both studio and live settings.
DT 71 IE
Optimized for drummers and bassists, the DT 71 IE delivers powerful bass and clear treble. This sound signature enhances low frequencies while ensuring detailed reproduction of cymbals, percussion, and bass guitar overtones. Slightly reduced mids provide added clarity and transparency, promoting precise timing and a dynamic playing experience— perfect for drummers and bassists who require the highest quality sound.
DT 72 IE
For guitarists and singers, DT 72 IE provides a natural sound balance for enhanced clarity. With subtly tuned bass the DT 72 IE provides a solid foundation without overwhelming lows, while natural low mids ensure transparency. The frequency response between 200-500 Hz compensates for the “occlusion effect,” preventing muffled sound and delivering a clear, precise listening experience for live performers.
DT 73 IE
The DT 73 IE is designed for orchestral musicians, pianists, and keyboard players. It offers natural bass and mid-range with precise treble overtones. Linear sound reproduction between 20 Hz and 1 kHz ensures an accurate and authentic representation of every note, making it ideal for orchestral musicians striving for tonal precision.
A treble boost from 5 kHz upwards enhances overtones, allowing pianists and keyboard players to hear intricate harmonic details clearly, all while maintaining a smooth, non-fatiguing sound profile.

Studio Headphones
In addition to the four new IEM’s beyerdynamic is also showing the DT 1770 PRO MKII and DT 1990 PRO MKII studio headphones for the first time at the 2025 NAMM Show.
These headphones feature updated TESLA.45 premium drivers and lower impedance at 30 ohms, making them compatible with a wider range of devices without compromising audio performance.
- DT 1770 PRO MKII (closed-back): Ideal for recording and monitoring. The closed-back design provides excellent isolation, coupled with a lively sound profile that produces powerful, deep bass.
- DT 1990 PRO MKII (open-back): Designed for mixing, editing, and mastering. Its open-back design creates a natural, spacious soundstage with accurate bass response, even in the lowest octaves.

The Bottom Line
During the past century, beyerdynamic has demonstrated that they know how to build both loudspeakers (their original product) and headphones designed for both studio and home use.

With the introduction of their DT IEM product line, beyerdynamic is offering listening flexibility to fit their specific needs in four core areas, as well as boosting the availability of the DT1770 MKII and DT1990 MKII full-size headphones.
