The dream of setting up a movie projector in your home theater is getting a lot easier. Ultra-short throw laser projectors are starting to gain in popularity and with image quality improving with each new generation, and fewer issues related to setup — we expect this category to explode over the next 12 months. New products like the BenQ V7050i Laser TV Projector are going to be very appealing when you consider how expensive an 80″+ OLED HDTV can be from Sony or LG.
Epson released their LS500 Laser Projector last year. LG, Samsung, Optoma and VAVA soon followed and now we can add BenQ into the mix too.
What’s unique about ultra-short throw projectors is that they’re designed to be placed just inches from the wall they’re projecting onto. Experience a 100-inch image (and larger) with only a 9-inch gap between projector and wall.
Priced at $3,499, the new BenQ V7050i ultra-short throw 4K Laser TV projector claims to offer 1.3 times the color volume than other laser TVs in the same class across an image size greater than 100 inches. With BenQ’s exclusive CinematicColor technology, colors are said to be stunningly rich and gradients are extremely fine with 98% coverage of the DCI-P3 color space.
In addition, HDR-PRO brings HDR10 and HLG support, while dynamic tone mapping adjusts image contrast and brightness levels on the fly to reveal previously lost details in dark or shadow areas whilst preventing bright areas from being overexposed. For a fully immersive experience, users can enjoy 3D videos or movies on the projector as well.
In agreement with the UHD Alliance, BenQ firmly believes that Filmmaker Mode optimized by CinematicColor enables your Laser TV to display the content precisely as it was intended by the filmmaker for darkroom cinematic enjoyment. However, BenQ also says the projector can work well in daylight with the right screen.
For the ultimate sound experience, audio can be output to an external sound system via dual HDMI 2.0b and SPDIF ports. Additionally, treVolo-tuned 5Wx2 virtual surround speakers in the cabinet offer up punchy sound.
A Google-certified Android TV HDMI dongle is included for streaming TV shows, games and sporting events.
The V7050i ultra-short throw projector takes up minimal space and reduces complicated wiring. With integrated automatic eye protection sensor, sunroof and dust-reducing louver design, the projector adds simple elegance to practical features with 20,000 hours of life.
