BenQ just unveiled some tantalizing details on their upcoming V5000i UST (Ultra Short Throw) projector ($3,499 MSRP). It’s a 4K triple laser DLP-based projector with 2500 Lumens of peak brightness and support for HDR10+ high dynamic range. The unit also includes BenQ’s HDR-PRO tone mapping and local contrast enhancement technology to make the most of 4K content with HDR. This processing assures that the projector maintains details in both dark and bright areas of the image.
The company says that the V5000i projector is capable of reproducing 95% of the BT.2020 color spectrum as well as 98% of DCI-P3 Cinematic Color. Gamers will be happy to hear that the projector supports 4K signals from next generation gaming consoles at 120 Hz, though the projector’s input lag measurement has not yet been published. The unit comes bundled with a free BenQ 100″ Ambient Light-Rejecting (ALR) Fresnel screen for use in bright or dark rooms.
For sound, the V5000i packs a pair of treVelo speakers inside the chassis, powered by a 40W amp. It is said to be compatible with “Dolby and DTS technologies.” There is also an eARC-compatible HDMI jack (HDMI 2) for connection to a receiver or soundbar.
BenQ has a good track record with UST projectors. Last year their V7050i projector took the top ranking in ProjectorScreen.com’s LaserTV Showdown in the single laser category. It will be interesting to see what they can do with a 3-laser RGB lighting engine and this advanced new HDR-PRO processor.
The BenQ V5000i UST projector is expected to begin shipping in July, 2023. More information at ProjectorScreen.com:
